I mean, I see a bunch of header and font tags that aren't closed (and width tags...wtf?), but as far as I knew, not closing an html tag was just bad form and mucked up parsing.  I didn't know...this...could happen

Header tags weren't closed. And I'm not sure why there's a frickin' center tag around everything.

I do truly miss the days when pages were hand-coded, content was static, ads meant you had hit it big (or had lots of gullible investors) and browsers just browsed.  And geocities was fun (albeit broken as shiat).
I get sad that the internet of old is but a memory, and in thirty years, few people will remember it, and its already completely out of reach.
At least with an old car, you can get that nostalgic feeling if you have one.  That is gone forever with the web.
And then occasionally you come across one of these pages.

It's the unclosed H3 tag used throughout.  There is so much wrong with this page that I don't know where to begin, but here's a start.

Don't use tables for non-tabular data.
Don't use header tags (H#) for non headers.  Conversely, use the damn header tag when it is a header.
Don't individually set the font.
Don't individually set the alignment.
And most of all, NEVER USE FARKING FRONTPAGE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

the header tag isn't optional on closing, which was obviously left out here.
the font size uses em's, which are a relative sizing to the element's parent.
each time a new h3 was opened, the font is increased by 1.17x.
hard to imagine ms front page even allowed this to happen.

who still uses front page?
