he is rebuilding Nine Inch Nails with an almost entirely new lineup,

That's not a reunion, then.

I just got an email today announcing the presale for Motley Crue at a local ~5000 seat venue.

Their cross Canada tour.  (It appears all four guys are in it by the way the email blurb is written..)

cheapest seat is $76+

it was inevitable. he just came out with a new album with his side-project How to Destroy Angels and was teasing a new album with NIN for a while now. i'm excited, especially because the How to Destroy Angels EP is farking insanely brilliant.

I swear I saw them/him on their/his last tour in 2008 or 2009 and the show was still damn sharp. Pulled out a startling good version of "Deep" which is off of the first Tomb Raider movie soundtrack.

But I also have "I'm cooler than all of you card" by seeing NIN play a 300 person club in 1989.

Saw NIN in a venue about the same size after "Pretty Hate Machine" came out. Though I can't for the life of me remember who opened for them.

Also saw Oasis in an even tinier club (Satyricon) that only had about 20 people in the audience. Liam Gallagher did NOT look happy.

He was also on The Fragile and Ghosts I - IV.  This is the largest lineup that Nine Inch Nails has toured with, which could make for an interesting show.  I'd really like to see some of the songs he's never done live before, the more complex arrangements (Underneath It All, Where Is Everybody, Zero Sum, My Violent Heart, and Demon Seed) especially with such a piano/keyboard/synth-heavy lineup (Adrian, Alessandro, Josh, Ilan, and Trent).

I only heard one song off that album, and I thought his wife's singing was atrocious. I don't remember the name of the song, but the video was just them in the studio. Is there a better song I can give a spin?

Yeah I think that Oscar really put a damper on any future indevors he might've had. What a sad sack for taking his on hiatus band out of hiatus and touring for the fans. And touring with his new project before that tour. What a dick.

All the times Ive seen them from the little club tours and beyond, Lights In The Sky tour was hands down the best concert I've ever been to. The performance, perfect band members cast, and the best visual show I've ever seen. I almost don't want to go to see them again because that show was about as perfect as I could've ever hoped for.

He snubbed Ottawa with a cancellation the last time he rolled though, meh no biggie if I miss him this round.  How to Destroy Angels has a great sound to it though, its distinctly Trent Reznory but good to get some female vocals in on that music style for a change.  Meanwhile his own music has just lost the angst, With Teeth was a great song but the rest are all kinda meh, probably because he's happily married instead of whining about some ex.

Next time you're in a laundramat/firehouse/warehouse- basically anyplace warmed by one of those heating units that hangs in the corner of the room, take a look at the name on the bottom. Yep- "Reznor".

He should tour with Dave Grohl on drums, and just play "Getting Smaller" over and over again for like 5 hours. I'd pay to see that.

I saw him at a venue that was pretty small. There was a lot of smoke and light and he'd come out sing a bit and then disappear. I spent the entire night wondering why I didn't just sit at home and listen to the CD. Then I read a Rolling Stone article where he said one of his fans said to him "You'll know it's me because I am the one singing your songs the loudest"and I was just done with it. I only listen to field recordings of farm machinery and sea anemones. Support your local noise bands.

NIN live (and Tool live for that matter) is almost entirely a film and light show now. The actual performers are barely seen at all. The last show I saw, I moved from the front of the pit to the back because the view of the actual show was better.

What, giving it your first serious listen?

Pretty Hate Machine, Downward Spiral, and The Fragile are all worth listening to, in my opinion.  Broken was good, but not necessary.

I had drinks with Reznor, Lenny Kravitz, and Marilyn Manson at the Saturn Bar in New Orleans in the mid 1990s,  I had earlier in the week in stalled a t-1 in Reznors house and his personal assistant turned out to be a good buddys little brother and Trent asked me to hang out.

Reznor and Kravitz were extremely cool and lo-key.

Manson looked like a soiled vagrant and smelled like e Mardi Gras portalet and keept accidently dropping his hand into my lap...

"Wave Goodbye".

NIN's music has appealed to me more as it's evolved (and The Slip was extraordinary for a "free" album), so I'll see it if the tour comes nearby.

Year Zero and With Teeth are pretty decent, The Slip is okay, Ghosts is kind of meh (for NIN "chilled"/stripped I prefer the extra disc on All That Could Have Been - the updated live PHM disc is also quite good if you like the PHM tracks as they have evolved over time).

Yeah,  I've typically found Reznor's work to be mostly a derivative of better artists, but a collaboration with Belew sounds interesting.    It's been a while since there was a electric/prog act that excited me.

I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks PHM is horribly dated. Hell, i bought it in 1995 or so and it was horribly dated. It does have some great tracks, but about a third of it is just kind of goofy.

I thought With_teeth wasn't bad, but I haven't listened to it in years. I would put Year Zero up with his best work. I liked The Slip, but I haven't listened to it in a while.

Trent's had his issues. I remember one of the mid 90's shows when he made the jump to arenas and the show was dry: no beer or liquor sales in the building supposedly because he was cleaning up. There were a lot of pissed off people that night.

I also saw in small nightclubs:

-Alice in Chains opening for another band
-Had to rescue a buddy who was giving two of the guys from Linkin Park shiat after they opened for a local band (The Urge I think) here in St. Louis. My friend was drunk and kept telling the Linkin guys they'd never go anywhere: boy did he get that one wrong.
