Theaetetus: The Rev. Richard Baker of St. Malachy's Catholic Church on 49th Street stepped back from his demands that Lillie's restaurant stop the show, sources said, in a peacemaking conference call in which he agreed to go along with their "Breakfast at Epiphany's" brunch and the cross-dressers agreed to cancel their protest outside the church.

So, it's an "understanding" in which the Catholics back down from their idiotic demand, and in exchange, the drag queens don't make them look like assholes?

Yup. Looks like they tried to bully someone and were reminded that this isn't 1200 A.D. any more, and sometimes when the church pushes now people push back.

kd1s: I find it interesting how churches are getting all bent out of shape by LGBT events in general. I recall back in the late 80's and early 90's we used to have LGBT and HIV events in a local church with the blessing of the priests.

Religious culture in America has regressed over the last few decades, IMHO. The concept of "turn the other cheek" has been gutted by hordes of scripturally illiterate statists who are busy trying to prove that they're the most religious by hating the groups their political teachers on the right tell them the bible tells them to hate, and demanding the freedom of others be curtailed according to their half-baked religious interpretations. It plays to their inferiority complexes, and gives them people to feel superior to with logic which cannot be refuted since it is often based on lies about what the bible teaches (not that the bible is anything more than a collection of crap some guys centuries ago decided to write to encourage people to get along better - but these folks can't even get THAT right). I blame the ascension of the religious right in the Republican party.
