Oh snap.

Typical brain-dead media whores out there, everywhere.

That was good. Nice to see some light heartedness when reporters are asking stupid questions.

Jennifer Lawrence, Aboleth from Aboleth News. You've mentioned about taking a shower this morning, and I was wondering if you ever 1. sang in the shower, 2. brushed your teeth while you're taking a shower, 3. worn lingerie while showering, and 4. take a shiat in the shower and then heeled it down the drain.

2013-02-25 09:16:18 AM
I'll show her what peaking too soon is all about.

Yea, it isn't like she was nominated for best actress in 2010, was in X-men first class in 2011 and starred in Hunger Games in 2012. She is just some obscure actress.

If you don't know who Jennifer Lawrence is at this point you don't care about movies.

I have never in my llife had any interest in a post-Oscar interview. THAT, on the other hand, was awesome. It wasn't even just the stupid questions, she was 'on' from the second she stepped in front of the mic, with the "I hope this isn't an auction, because this is worth more that that." line. Funny thing is; she was on SNL a few weeks back and I thought she sucked. Good to see her doing so well here.

SNL is a vortex that actually sucks the funny out of funny people. If they'd just told Jennifer to stand on the stage and talk about random stuff for three minutes, it would've been a hundred times funnier than the horrible material they gave her.

I disagree, I've seen some very funny hosts, and some very flat hosts. Usually you can tell by how many skits they're in, the ones who fall flat get a skit and a half, and the funny ones are on throughout the show. That particular episode was no good at all. Besides, she did fine with the horrible material the reporters gave her. Of course that shot she claimed to have had may have ultimately been the needed catalyst.

That German reporter flew 8,000 miles to ask not only one stupid f*cking question, but one that had just been asked.  It is gag-reel video, do we need text to go with it?

The question about "peaking too soon" is an interesting one but not one bound to get much of an answer.  Hers was funny and honest.  A better question would have been "At 22, holding your best actress Oscar from your second nomination, a bona-fide star, what is your next goal?  Just keep killing it like Shirley Bassey sings for the next half century or is there another mountain you'd also like to climb?"

For the record, Dame Shirley is celebrating 60 years in showbiz and still sounded like a hurricane filled with molten chocolate to me.

When you don't know the name of an actress who won the Academy Award for Best Actress and starred in a movie that made $400 million in the same year, it probably has more to do with how out of touch you are from mainstream society as opposed to how bland her name is.

/Generally Hollywood tends to have plain non-ethnic common, preferably monosyllabic, names.  If you aren't born with one, you change it to one.... James Dean, Jimmy Stewart, Tom Hanks, Kurt Douglas, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Meg Ryan, Ginger Rogers,  Bette Davis, Julie Andrews, Elizabeth Taylor, etc.

She handled the stupid questions with a lot more tact than I would have, but she has answered a lot more stupid questions from entertainment reporters/columnists than me, so there's that.

Yeah, that's not pedophillia, which is defined as attraction to pre-pubecent children. Presumably said 16 year old had a functioning penis. That's just sex with a minor. Illegal, but as a matter of biology, she's still attracted to sexually mature beings.

\Just not you.

Entertainment reporters are bottom-of-the-barrel stupid.  You can tell smart actors absolutely dread speaking to these assholes.  I saw a quick E! red carpet interview with Sally Field and you could tell she would much rather be having an enema than speaking to these people.

I'm originally from Louisville as well.  I bet before too long, knowing the place, there will be a HUGE billboard on the Waterson Expressway that says "Home of Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence".

I'm originally from Louisville as well.  I bet before too long, knowing the place, there will be a HUGE billboard on the Waterson Expressway that says "Home of Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence".

The Louisville based facebook entities(Louisville.com and WhyLouisville) are already crowing about it.

Yeah, I've been seeing that in my FB feed.  Louisville is by every measure a large metropolitan area, but man, they just cannot shake that "small town" mentality, which is both good and bad, I suppose.

I about got my ass kicked at a bar there one time when I accidentally said "Lou-EE-ville" instead of "Wou-a-vul". People there actually get pissed when you don't say Louisville like you have a mouthful of marbles.

Other than that: very nice big town/small city.

Now you're just being silly.  I have it on very good authority that west of Preston highway is just this.... thing.  What would you call it?  A part of the space time continuum that is there, but not really?  I know for sure if you drive west of there you just magically appear in Evansville.  There aren't actually any people in that space, just like... Spent many a years near Kenwood myself.  Drove back over there recently and other than a brief segment on 3rd, it's come back uphill from where it was about 10 years ago.   That said, I never thought it was that bad to begin with.  There really aren't that many parts of Louisville at all that are that bad.  I've driven down (and eaten on) on all those high numbered streets where no white person is supposed to go and had such horrible experiences as people waving and asking me how my day is going.   I just don't know how the average person can handle such reckless disregard for stereotypes.

Not when it comes to boobies.  Granted, Farkers are pedantic pricks when it comes to women, but certain hotties here are just bulletproof.

See any Salma Hayek or Kate Winslet thread.  I can see Jennifer Lawrence easily going into that pantheon.

I'm inclined to agree. She has nice boobs and legitimate acting talent so I think she'll do okay here.

Now I have a giant girl crush on her (along with Tina Fey and Emma Thompson).

I can't wait to see Silver Linings Playbook. I loved her in X Men: First Class and I'm happy she is returning to play Mystique again in the sequel.

I finally saw Winter's Bone last week (Netflix instant queue) and, wow, she's got nerves of steel and is pretty fearless as an actress. I also love the fact that she is not method and basically "uses her imagination" when fleshing out her characters.

Yay LOUISVILLE THREAD!!!

I say kind of mash of "proper" and "local" LOUIE-vull. It is named after King Louis XVI, not King Loo-ah XVI.

I grew up in a corner of the actual city that is more easily described as Shively, though it is not Shively proper.

Cloverleaf, sits between the back side of Iroquois Park and The Watterson.  So named because of the "cloverleaf" interchange of Dixie and The Watterson.

NuLu is a revitalization of East Market st. downtown.  A bunch of hipster places have opened up down there with some amazingly good food and even more impressive mixologists.   There's a farmers market once a month, food trucks patrol the streets ready to throw crazy tacos or gourmet burgers at you, and all the homeless people have been driven out.

I know, right?  She was only given the best actress Oscar on one of the most watched television shows on the planet last night, how could a cool guy like you be expected to know who she is.

Yea, it isn't like she was nominated for best actress in 2010, was in X-men first class in 2011 and starred in Hunger Games in 2012. She is just some obscure actress.

If you don't know who Jennifer Lawrence is at this point you don't care about movies.

Maybe he cares so much about movies he hasn't watched anything recent to demonstrate to the man that they can't ruin his film memories and get away with it.

yeah...

I hated First Class and really didn't care about any of the actresses in it. Not enough to bother learning their names, anyway.

I did not see Hunger Games. `Not sure if I want to. I already saw Battle Royale.

Hmm... Nope. Still don't know her.

But I see now she was the chick who played teen Mystique in First Class (which I already stated I hated) and, yeah, she's kind of cute when she's covered in blue paint... but her performance didn't really impress me. She wasn't as bad as January Jones (a name I only know because it sounds like it should be a DC superhero's girlfriend's name) but she wasn't terribly remarkable, either.

Meh, I'm of two minds of this. I can see how it would be a little creepy if it was some random old guy, but Jack Nicholson has got some seriously good taste in girlfriends. Kelly LeBrock, Laura Flyn Boyle, Angie Everhart and Amber Smith spring to mind. Granted some of those women are old and hagard now, much like Jack himself, but when he was at the height of his powers he always had beautiful women around him. So, in that sense being compared to one of his ex-girlfriends is pretty damn flattering...

Winter's Bone and Silver Linings Playbook are what she's been nominated for. Neither of those are strictly young people movies. The former I can see understand not hearing about unless you are kind of a movie buff (although it was nominated for awards), the latter is advertised all the time, and she's done all the talk show rounds for it, and the cover of a bunch of magazines. So yeah, you're in a small minority.

Easy, guys. Personally I had no idea who she was till this moment, and I do love a good movie - for my part there has been very little from Hollywood in the last couple of years that has interested me, but it's all subjective isn't it.

All of that said, she seems awesome. Basic, good natured honesty is wonderful, and seems to be a bit rare in her corner of work.

That sometimes happens to me but really how could you not have heard of the Hunger Games?

Bhags: Charming, gorgeous, intelligent, good-natured, funny........how can you NOT like this girl?
The only thing I've actually seen that she's acted in, was that Bill Engvall show, which until I read it in a previous post, I didn't realize.
Having said that, and watched her interview here, I'm thinking I need to at least go watch Winter's Bone....(which was a horribly depressing book) and maybe The Hunger Games (which I hated as a book)
This is a girl to watch for an amazing future in front of her.

Her roll in the Hunger Games was crucial.  I don't know how much they paid her but it wasn't  enough.  There were other good performances (Woody Harrelson or Elizabeth Banks) but without hers it would be a flop.  Sort of like Amy Adams in Enchanted.  In the hands of a lesser actor, Enchanted would have been panned roundly but in both situations it was essential the actor carry the film in a way that exudes authenticity to what could have been schlock.

To be fair, that's partly because they were blatantly flirting with each other. Hell, she started it really.

"She reminded me of an old girlfriend."
"How about a new girlfriend?"

The flipping off pic was the response to one of the interviewers telling her to watch her step next time.
