The biggest tragedy is that the drunk drivers always walk away from these things, and go on to drink and drive another day.

it's from being unconscious prior to the accident occurring. When a person passes out their body goes slack, and the lack of awareness of a pending accident prevents their muscles from bracing for impact. Normally conscious people, even if they see it happening 1 second before it happens, adrenaline will cause muscles to lock up in order to try and brace for impact... it is that very reaction, and the locking up of muscles that causes most injuries. A person who is passed out, either because of alcohol or even sleep deprivation, has a much more flexible body and unless they experience blunt force trauma, can be whipped around pretty good before they get injured.

Even if he had a permit for the weapon, deputies said he could be charged with carrying a pistol while committing the felony of driving while intoxicated.

Wow, that is pretty epic.

We need to make cars more unsafe.  Put steel spikes on non-compressing steering wheels.    Good old solid steel dashboards with only lapbelts.

This must be the spot. Since there's only one real curve in the whole road. Maybe he left the Bayou Sports for the Hook Line and Sinker 'cause the chicks over there know how to party.

Yeah, I thought that might've had something to do with it.

This is exactly why we need more dash cams like Russia. I would have liked the on-board view.

I used to live over there. A lot of drunk drivers plus curvy road equals crashes about ever week. There aren't any trees in the median on Little York anymore because of drunks taking them out. They have destroyed the marque for our subdivision 3 times. The power goes out once every month or two due to them taking out a utility pole. It's really is amazing.

With this happening at night, I would imagine there wouldn't be much to see shortly leaving the road.

He was heard to be saying "Officer, why are you in my attic, I came up here to sit in my car, but why are you here?  What do mean this isn't my attic? This is my car, not my gun though."

Either that or he was going to creep out the high school girls at the Bear Creek Roller Rink.

Since he was driving drunk, I assume his insurance policy (assuming he HAD insurance) will refuse to pay the damages?

TFA: "Somehow, no one in either home was injured."

"Somehow"? How about because no one happened to be where the vehicle hit? Not a real mystery there. Please stop abusing the word "somehow."

Because it would force Texas into the depths of a socialist mire for someone to install several street lights and maybe a big sign or two, so that at least honest drivers aren't caught unawares.

(In a perfect world, they'd re-draw that curve, cite eminent domain and pay property owners for the land they construct the new curve onto.)
