I gotta side with the Ms. Wilson in this case. It's clear she's suffered some sort of brain damage from hitting her head on the fare box.

CTA is full of this kind of crap.
Go to the city court house and read the cases posted on the wall. You will find TONS of cases of so and so vs CTA

/if only we had a better way of tracking lawsuits, by agency. some kind of electronic filing online system!!

bu drivers need to step it up a great deal if they want to compete with law enforcement. putting down those delicious Jamaican Patties and start shooting everyone aboard is only a start.

FTA: "The spill cost taxpayers $100,000, when Broward County commissioners voted last week to settle Wilson's lawsuit. Her medical bills exceeded $220,000, the county said."

Anyone else think there's something fishy about her/her lawyers being willing to agree to a settlement that left her $120K in the hole?

I have to side with Broward county here.

Had they fired him earlier, he could have sued for "racial discrimination", and God knows what that would have cost the taxpayers.

That's a big hole.

FTA: "If you've got a problem with people, you're in the wrong business. A lot of these guys get the 'captain of my ship' syndrome. I say, 'Yeah, but it's Broward County's bus.'

I wish MORE bus drivers would take that tact, and do something about the nasty people who leave food/wrappers on the bus, and particularly those #$$&%&^#* that seem to think it's a-okay to not have any headphones to go along with that shiat-blaring $200 phone.

Also, while at first his infractions sound serious, he didn't do anything I haven't seen many, many drivers do in my time. Took the side mirror off an SUV? Have you seen how people park those things?! And speeding? You mean people go fast when they're on a tight schedule, particularly when their job depends on it?

Ditto. I used to get them in Florida all the time, but I've never found one in the PNW...I need to see if I can find a Caribbean market.

No.

The County said "We'll give you $100K now, or you can take it to court. If you go to court, we promise to drag it out as long as humanly possible, make you come to court to answer motions and responses as often as we're legally allowed, ask for as many continuances as we can get away with, and demand at least two independent doctor's evaluations. Oh, and don't forget your lawyer is working on a contingency fee, so he's going to get one-third of whatever you recover and the longer this takes the more he gets."

Florida has a cap on pain and suffering, IIRC, so she gets her medical bills and attorney fees, and that's it. Since there's nothing else she can get, she probably decided to take what she can get now, instead of maybe getting a little more in three or four years.

Reid's "work record is disappointing,'' but he never reached the firing threshhold under the union contract.....
Reid's files at the county track the six-year career of the 60-year-old, a former truck driver who'd had "some high school'' in Jamaica, he wrote on his application.

So he's a Niagara in the union and is basically bullet proof and teflon coated and even after doing $223,000 worth of injuries and a number of separate accidents he doesn't get fired. In the end the motherfarker resigned.

2013-02-25 01:26:33 AM
and dollars to doughnuts, the company paid him a pretty penny to resign as he was probably STILL under whatever threshold firing would have taken.

FTFA: "two county transit instructors rode his bus to observe him. He broke five rules and a passenger was injured while they watched, records show.

He wasn't disciplined."

This raises the question of what the fark were they watching him do?  Or is that just better than the average?  Seriously, breaks five rules and someone has to go to the hospital and the observers don't stop him or say anything.

Well, the bus driver is still a careless jerk, but I'm not as outraged by this as I was when I thought "eating a Jamaican beef patty" was a euphemism.

Check the regs...  You will find that jerked beef, pulled pork, and choked chicken are all prohibited on the bus, train, ship, and even starship.

I have a British recipe. Hope it helps:
2 lbs horse meat2 tablespoons chili sauce2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce2 teaspoons prepared mustard2 tablespoons finely chopped onionIn a large bowl, combine the ingredients and mix well. Shape into patties. Grill, covered, over medium heat for 6 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear.
