Mahogany is not a skin tone, damn it.
What does she use as tanning lotion? Lemon Pledge?

If she is that addicted to tanning wouldn't it make sense to just buy her own tanning bed?

On behalf of the USA, I would like to go ahead and proactively apologize to the Brits for the money your tax payers will spend on her healthcare (leading up to her death from cancer) and the subsequent cost of raising her daughter after she's gone...

You'd think she'd move to someplace sunny- like Libya or Egypt.

If she doesn't want her own tanning bed, wouldn't maybe moving someplace like Arizona work better?  Or Philadelphia.  I hear it's always sunny in Philadelphia.

It would be amusing if you could actually quantify self-awareness somehow.  She'd be on the low end, of course.

Because if she bought a tanning bed, she wouldn't be able to attention whore.

Even funnier, she thinks she can escape mockery and snide comments in the UK.  The people I know over there would pounce on her like a cat, but not quite kill her so they could bat her body around for an hour or two to amuse themselves.

1. She looks like one large melanoma.
2. She said: "They told me it was bad and tanning beds cause cancer. But I've been using them for years and never got cancer, so what do they know?"
My dad smoked, used carcinogenic chemicals at work, and had exposure to asbestos. He made similar comments before his lung cancer diagnosis, but no longer made those comments between his diagnosis and death.

I used to open hot radiators for customers when I worked in a gas station. So one day my car overheated, and I gave myself a 3rd degree burn opening the radiator before it cooled. Now I know that I, too, am moral.

Sooner Or Later -- With apologies to The Grass Roots
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
Its just a matter of time
Before you make up your mind
To give all that cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of when
I've told you time and again
I'll get all the cancer you've been denying
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
You say you'll never be mine
But darling they'll come a time
I'll taste all that cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of time
Before you make up your mind
And give all that cancer you've been denying
You've been looking for cancer
In all the wrong places
You've been looking for cancer
All the wrong faces
Gotta get ya girl
On this illusion
Gonna save your heart
From all this confusion
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
cancer is gonna win
Its just a matter of time
Before you make up your mind
And give all the cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of when
Told you time and again
I'll get all the cancer you've been denying

There's the rub, skin cancer takes time to develop.

If I were her hubby (Thank the FSM I'm not, just saying) I would have at least tried to have her committed long ago.

She does know, that it's actually quite easy to tan/burn in the winter, right? Just get some cardboard/wood, aluminum foil, and set it up in a reflective pattern and lay in the middle of it.

callmedutch: Why do British papers make up quotes from people? Have you seen "tan mom" interviewed on TV? Do the "quotes" in this piece sound like an uneducated woman from New Jersey said them?

I agree. The quotes use the word "mum." And it said the family is now on the breadline, something the US hasn't had in nearly a century.

I wonder if anyone has considered that this woman might be depressed and that the tanning was increasing her serotonin levels. I'm not a tanner, but 20 minutes outside in the middle of the afternoon on a summer day really gives me an energy jump. And during the winter I use a non-UV light box that seems to help with energy too. Although it doesn't feel as good as sitting in the sun for a bit.

2013-02-25 02:09:08 AM
Not that it really helps her health, but why doesn't she just buy her own tanning bed, and fry herself.

It is a nice thought, but why does England have to take her? She has the little matter of the possible 10 years hanging over her for child endangerment. Further it is possible England has some standards. If one sets the bar at all it is probably too high for her to qualify.

And getting tighter by the day. I think they'll revert the post graduate visa decision in the next couple of years though. Getting rid of that visa was pretty stupid. (well educated? get the fark out!) Plus fewer foreign students paying huge fees means home students have to pay more.

I'm currently waiting on the decision for my own visa switch (Tier 1 general to Unmarried partner) so any anger felt at someone thinking you can just "move to the UK" may be stress related.

branded "world's worst mom?" Really?Look, she's a bit of a freak and a tanorexic. That much is certain. But her kid looks healthy, happy and normal enough and I doubt the girl has actually been tanned unnaturally at all. "World's worst mom" would be for someone who beat their kid, and left her chained, naked in her own feces in the dark and starved her. There are people who have done that.

Being from Jersey myself, I can attest to the fact that we are indeed loaded with geeks and research facilities up in the north/middle part of the state.

It's comfortably like the better parts of New England up here for me.

However, I think it's better to point that out gently as to not reinforce the New Jersey stereotypes.

Canadian immigration isn't easy either unless you have a spotless medical history. I know two people who were denied immigration to Canada for health history. One was an old skin cancer diagnosis, the other was a "cleared" 10 year breast cancer survivor. Both had a lot of money, too. One wanted to buy hundreds of acres of land from my cousin, cash. Before she closed the deal she wanted to get her immigration taken care of, but was denied on the basis of her old diagnosis.

If the temperature gets below -2 Celsius / 28 Fahrenheit in London, it's considered extremely cold. The kind of temperatures that can happen in northern NJ (single digit Fahrenheit, more than minus-15 Celsius) only happen in the far northern islands of Scotland with any regularity. The averages for winter may be similar, but the extremes experienced on the East Coast don't exist in Britain like that.

Summer in London is pretty decent, warmth wise. Probably due to the asphalt/flat roof effect. Come up North and we get a few days a year over 25c but mostly around 18-22ish. Nice, but not sunbathing nice (for someone from Connecticut)

swingerofbirches: callmedutch: Why do British papers make up quotes from people?

It would surprise me if she weren't depressed, frankly. Putting herself under the spotlight like this may give her a boost as well. (She clearly likes the attention.) The tanning bed and the publicity will only hurt her in the long run, however. And her family.

She has to know she needs help by now. She has the means to ask thousands of people around the world for help. The fact that she apparently hasn't, and is planning extreme measures to avoid the help that has been given, is enough to make a person facepalm.

Just in case it hasn't sunk in, tanning is addictive. I don't tan myself but know women who tan, and they swear that they feel better after a tan in a tanning bed. They go back to the bed when life gets hectic and actually get... well, they get high. There is a euphoric feeling for them and a state of mind change after using the tanning bed. They seem to use it reasonably but do admit they have to watch it, because there's a compulsion to up the frequency after uses. And yes, one does own their own bed.

The addiction to tan, really, the addiction to sun (just a synthetic form in this case) has probably been around forever. This lady is just someone whose impulse control is so bad that she can't keep from going back nearly immediately. As with any kind of addiction, I'm betting her brain is now hardwired in a tight feedback loop for tanning, and she probably is literally and biologically depressed being unable to tan at the frequency she used to. So everything she talks about when she speaks about tanning is spoken from the voice of addiction. She's crazy, but understandably crazy.

gregscott: 1. She looks like one large melanoma.
2. She said: "They told me it was bad and tanning beds cause cancer. But I've been using them for years and never got cancer, so what do they know?"
My dad smoked, used carcinogenic chemicals at work, and had exposure to asbestos. He made similar comments before his lung cancer diagnosis, but no longer made those comments between his diagnosis and death.

I used to open hot radiators for customers when I worked in a gas station. So one day my car overheated, and I gave myself a 3rd degree burn opening the radiator before it cooled. Now I know that I, too, am moral.

Sooner Or Later -- With apologies to The Grass Roots
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
Its just a matter of time
Before you make up your mind
To give all that cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of when
I've told you time and again
I'll get all the cancer you've been denying
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
You say you'll never be mine
But darling they'll come a time
I'll taste all that cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of time
Before you make up your mind
And give all that cancer you've been denying
You've been looking for cancer
In all the wrong places
You've been looking for cancer
All the wrong faces
Gotta get ya girl
On this illusion
Gonna save your heart
From all this confusion
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ya
Sooner or later, girl you got to give in
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna let ya
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna win
cancer is gonna win
Its just a matter of time
Before you make up your mind
And give all the cancer that you've been hiding
Its just a question of when
Told you time and again
I'll get all the cancer you've been denying
Sooner or later, cancer is gonna get ...

DO NOT WANT Poster Girl: Canadian immigration isn't easy either unless you have a spotless medical history. I

No it's not. I meant into the United States from Canada, as opposed to Mexico. It used to be easy to come to the US via Canada, many Cubans would take that route. I knew going to Canada meant having a useful skill or otherwise being able to contribute, just like the UK, and I'm sure most modern countries. Didn't know abut the health thing, but with their healthcare system I guess it makes some sense. Too bad the histories are probably just being read and rubber stamped by some jackhole bureaucrat.

OK, I honestly don't get your response. Again, many of us here in NJ refer to our "gardens" as any part of our land plots, often in the backyard, a place where many do indeed "lay out." (As they say.) Back to your initial comment, yes, many Jersey folks do refer to their backyard gardens.  BTW, many of the best tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchinis and corn are grown in Jersey backyards! Good stuff, man. I would love to actually send you some this summer, if there was a way. And I so would do that for you!

nah, see, I live in NY and I know how we speak here in the tri-state area. Gardens are where you plant vegetables. Many people have them. They are usually located in people's yards, generally the back. People do not sunbathe in these areas of land because they are often soft dirt and tilled and not conducive to laying out lawnchairs. People do, however, sunbathe in their backyards... maybe even right next to their garden but no one in the NY/NJ/CT area would call that sunbathing in the garden because they're not sunbathing in the garden, they are sunbathing in their backyard.
In England, you see, they refer to their backyards AS gardens regardless of whether there is soft dirt with tomato plants sticking out of it.
In England you might sunbathe in your "garden" because that would mean you're chilling out in the backyard, not sinking into old eggshells and Miracle Grow laced dirt. Get it?

balancing act: HoratioGates: If she doesn't want her own tanning bed, wouldn't maybe moving someplace like Arizona work better?  Or Philadelphia.  I hear it's always sunny in Philadelphia.

No,no,no- don't try pawning that trash off on us.  We have our own cross to bear, don't need this nut too.

Clearly I didn't think that one all the way through.  As a natural citizen she wouldn't have the paperwork to go with her dark skin that she'd need to function in Arizona.  How about Nevada.  They could throw a few tanning lights in the signs on the strip and she'd be in 7th Heaven.

Ignorance is bliss, moran. New Jersey is "The Garden State". Wow did your Momma raise a fool.

Foxxinnia: When I think of a place that's less of a nanny state than New Jersey, the first place that comes to mind is England.

Just because you toss the salads of diseased street urchins in front of children on their way to school is no reason to sling insult. The citizens of New Jersey just have morals and values. Remember them? They're what you gave up when you were 12 and started doing anal for nickels.

ISO15693: There you go, London. Your challenge is to seem more educated and less small minded than new jersey.

In addition to some of the countries finest public schools New Jersey has over 65 Colleges and Universities. And there is no lack of bright minds from The Garden State that have greatly contributed to most every field of science, medicine, the arts, inventions, etcetera. When you project your own lack of personality, education, contribution and that terribly low self-esteem you suffer from towards others it mirrors what a pathetic POS you are as a representative of San Jose CA. Now get back to work, you have at least a dozen more stray dogs to blow before your shift is over.

If New Jersey residents are so bright, how come they can't be trusted to do something so simple as pumping their own gas?
