It's also killed fewer people than SARS. Which, in turn, killed FAR fewer people than the regular flu

It's mostly found in the UK and horse meat lasagna is sold in the UK.

So it's either that or the equally nasty chips with malt vinegar.

You still had a higher risk of death by simply driving in Ontario traffic. Yet people still did that while worrying about not using hand sanitizer.

Perspective, people.

Officials do not believe that this mysterious virus spreads through human to human contact, but it can be transferred via animals and bats.

So, bats aren't animals?

10th? More like billionth as variants of the coronavirus is the number 2 cause of the common cold (rhinovirus is the number 1). What seems to be happening is a mutation of the coronavirus, like what we had with SARS.

Yeah, I was in northern Arizona when hantavirus showed up and scared the fark out of everybody. ABout the only thing I did differently is wash the cash and boil the change from the laundromat we maintained up on the Res, but we probably would have done that anyway. The big part of these scares is the "scare" part, people freak the hell out and run around like we're all gonna die.

And then it automatically emails the site admin saying, "Sorry I almost clicked on a link to your site, but I don't go to sites that allow that crap.  Enjoy your ignores and (hopefully) bankruptcy.  DIAF."

Came here to note this.  There are many strains of coronavirus, it has been known for a very long time.

Mahhughes: Does it bother anyone that there seem to be more about of these stories after they dug up that spanish flu sample from the perma frost a few years ago.

No.  I haven't noticed any particular increase in "these stories", whatever that means, and this virus is no more related to Spanish influenza than your last cold was.  I don't see how the two could possibly be related.  I do notice that, regardless of any other news, a notable new virus springs up once or twice every several years, which is pretty much expected.

I think the fatality rate for SARS was comparable to Spanish flu (~10%).  That may not seem that high, but Spanish flu killed more people in one year than AIDS has total.  Now imagine if it had stuck around for a few years...

I did consulting in Sunnybrook Hospital during the Toronto SARs scare. Militant nurses everywhere with bottles of alcohol hand wash. I coughed in the hall once and I thought they were gonna turn a flamethrower on me. It was crazy.
