That's funny. The article is 100% about the origin of carbonated water and has nothing at all about 'cola' or 'wars'.

This.  TFA was about the history of snake oil salesmen.  Which, I admit, is still neat.  I wonder when the first caveman conned a fellow tribe member into giving him some extra meat or a mate in exchange for some totally worthless thing with hidden powers.

About the same time the first shaman started dancing around the fire instead of going out hunting and doing actual work...

??? Dr. Pepper was invented to mask the flavor of a medicine, and is a most wonderful carbonated beverage that stands on its own. It's almost as logical as comparing 7UP, the Uncola, which too is a delicious and refreshing carbonated beverage standing separate from yummy cola drinks while providing consumers with a wonderful alternative. Apples and oranges.

Dr Pepper, was originally sold as a pick-me-up for office workers who would get the afternoon nods after lunch. it has only ever had caffine and sugar in it. The Dr. at the front of it's name was put there to make consumers think that there was a medical connection to it, so therefor... good for you.

Since no actual medical claims could be actually contributed to it.. the  " . " was eventually removed from the Dr., so now it's only Dr Pepper.

From a flavoring chemists point of view, Dr Pepper is a Cherry flavored cola by definition. There is also extra cinnamon oil and star anise.

7up had lithium in it, to bring down those bipolar drinkers

So the vanillin is "cherry" and the phosphoric acid is "cola"?
