4 16 oz bottles (which would roughly equal a 2 liter bottle) cost more to manufacture (materials, energy) and cost more to transport (because of the size footprint and weight that it takes compared to a single bottle).  That is why you will usually see 2 liter bottles for much cheaper than a comparable six pack of soft drink.  The sugar water inside the bottle cost them less than the packaging.  And if the local pizza joint now has to charge you more for the same amount of beverage because they are being forced to sell it to you in separate containers, that is a tax on you, since the restaurant passes along the costs to the consumer.  And then, if you knew anything about business, you'd know that receipts are taxed by the city and state, so if the pizza parlor is now charging you 3 dollars more for the same soda in 16 oz containers rather than one 2 liter, then they are reporting that as income that is subject to being taxed, meaning that the city's revenue goes up in the process.

Stay naive.  Bloomberg and his ilk count on people like you.

Well for a long time there's been a loophole. People go to food markets and they get whatever they want with no supervision of whether or not it's healthy. Sure, we can put on the side of a 20oz bottle of soda that it's 2 servings and hope the person divides it up between two meals but there's no real way to enforce it. So what we have to do is close the bulk food loophole and make every item sold one serving. That way a person will have to consciously decide to eat twice as much food as they should.

Every year fatties cost America billions in healthcare costs. Since this is paid for by the taxpayers it's only fair that taxpayers work to end their subsidization of these free riding fatties.
