No booze?  Alcohol isn't a crutch, it's a life jacket.

Used to drink coffee before gym.  My observation was basically this:

With coffee:  First set was a breeze.
Without coffee:  The struggle began immediately.

This is with the same weights, routine, and trainer.  Only variable was yes/no on the coffee.  Suffice to say I always tried to get my coffee in.

What, I'm supposed to consider this some kind of revelation that people use stimulants and painkillers?

Cracked lists are like Lucy holding the football.  It seems like a good concept, I think they should be interesting, and I keep thinking "this is the one that will be interesting and well-written."  One of these days I'll learn.

A 20 mg beta blocker does wonders for me.  I get very nervous when speaking in front of people yet somehow my career has evolved into one where i frequently have to give speeches.  It just sucks because i have no social anxieties other than this one thing and I have no idea how to get rid of it other than with beta blockers.

It does kinda feel like cheating some but seriously after taking one pill and I can recite the Gettysburg address in front of a thousand clansmen without breaking a sweat or having my heart race.

That falls under #1.  Booze is a diuretic.

I'm in the same boat.  I had a panic attack while giving a speech once as a student, then for years I'd get all nervous just at the thought of it happening again.  I was prescribed beta blockers as a migraine prophylaxis and that anxiety utterly disappeared.  I'm at 60mg/day and have gained about 10 lbs after starting them on a daily basis 10 years ago, but then again I'm in my late 40's so that's probably par for the course.  Having complete poise in front of a group and far fewer migraines is worth the love handles.

Also, after reading the article I really want to try Modafinil.
