Thread-sh*t in one.

If Republicans go through with this, they will deserve even more hatred and anger than they already have received. Wrong-headed and arbitrary cuts while leaving taxes at historic lows for the top 5% is ridiculous and unfair and cruel.

Which sounds like most Republicans -- you want to screw everyone else but yourselves.

Go to hell.

If you mean by "revenue" that we cut subsidy to large corporations and farm-ranch absentee landlord corporations, then sure.

If you mean revenue by cutting social programs, go to hell and die. And then we'll stomp your grave like you deserve.

I work for a government contractor that also has a private sector division...I am so happy I work for the private side.  We've had a lot of people from the public side in the office this past week, meeting after meeting, planning and adjusting, assuming cuts are coming...

Revenue is money IN. You're talking about cuts.

Though cuts to corporate subsidies would be a good place for them to offer cuts. I'm thinking petroleum companies should be first up.

The GOP are still banking on tanking the economy by continuing to fail at doing even the most basic aspects of their jobs in an ill-fated attempt to blame all the shiat that happens afterwords on Obama.

See: All the "Sequester was Obama's idea" derp in heavy rotation in the RW blogosphere.

The basic idea behind the sequester was that even Republicans could not be crazy or stupid or malicious enough to deliberately make America fail.

Obama's only error there was in thinking that the GOP weren't totally corrupt partisan hacks who could be goaded into doing their jobs at some point.

Have no doubt the sequester if it happens will hurt the American economy and then it's just a question of seeing who will the majority blame for it in subsequent elections.

Obama is betting on America doing the right thing.

Republicans are betting on a majority of Americans being stupid enough to fall for their propaganda.

the Republicans won't deal.  they *have* to punish Obama.  See, he got re-elected.  if they make a deal with him on this issue, then he'll win AGAIN!  and that's just not fair.  so everyone else in the country is just gonna have to suffer.  then next time maybe they won't vote Democrat.  the GOP doesn't WANT to hurt you, but you people keep making the wrong choices...so they HAVE to hurt you so that you learn.  And the GOP will KEEP hurting you, until you man up and do what the Republicans say is right.

Except that John Boehner claimed to have gotten 98% of what he wanted out of the negotiations that lead to the sequester.

For those of you scoring at home the blame goes like this: 98% Republicans, 2% Democrats.

Would the sequester have been necessary had the GOP just raised the debt ceiling like they voted for many many times before?

And that is pretty much how the majority of the public is assigning blame. Boehner has got to be reading poll numbers at night and going through an entire bottle of scotch.

Ladies and gentleman, the simple minded GOP base repeating the derp he's been fed which he swallows whole without even chewing.

The Sequester was the Sword of Damacles hanging over Congress' head forcing them to find common ground. After the Gang of 6 had their 11th hour deal quashed by Teatards (especially Cantor) who rebelled against Boehner it was all over but the shouting.

Hopefully most Americans aren't as willfully ignorant as you.

They've already folded.  The counterproposal on the table, the only one actually on the table from either side, only has a small part of it being revenue.  It still has crippling social cuts.

How does that excuse Obama for proposing the sequester in the first place?

Didn't Obama vote against raising the debt limit when he was senator?

2013-02-24 12:08:22 PM
"I don't know if this is a failure of reading comprehension or internet searching capabilities or both," said Klein.

Klein then did a Google search for the White House's plan, which showed numerous results, including several that showed the President's actual plan.

Additionally, as Klein pointed out, the sequestration plan is inside the President's budget (which Republicans also deny exists).

Why do Republicans continue to deny the existence of the plan which is right in front of their faces? It's simple. They don't like it. The President's plan will raise taxes on the wealthy. The American people love that idea. In fact, 68% feel that the President has a "mandate" to do just that. There are fewer political downsides to pretending something doesn't exist than in voting against the wishes of 2/3rds of the voters. Link

It answers your point, though.  When Obama was senator, he preached against raising the debt limit, and said that running up the debt was irresponsible and unpatriotic.  Then when he became president, he ran up an almighty debt.  Republicans who were reluctant to raise the debt limit were just being all responsible and patriotic, practicing what Obama preached.

Obama owns sequestration.  It was his idea and he lied about it in his debate with Romney.

It is true.  The fact that the Dems are better at spin than the Pubs doesn't change the fact that we're talking a whopping 2% cut in the size of the government.  The Dem's plan is to raise taxes again, 6 weeks after their last tax hike.

Sorry Charlie, it's farking 2%.  You telling me there isn't 2% of federal spending that can be cut?

Here's an idea.  You know those annoying commercials offering to get powered scooters to old people "At no cost to you!".  About that.  Lets find the part of Medicaid that pays for that shiat and cancel it.   I don't see why I should have to buy your fat, lazy ass a fancy wheelchair.

2013-02-24 12:41:39 PM

SkinnyHead: running up the debt was irresponsible and unpatriotic.

Bush running two wars on a foreign credit card and off the books while cutting taxes to historic lows for the upper 5% was not only irresponsible and unpatriotic it was completely insane.

But you had no problem with it at the time, did you?

Still don't. Do you?

Here's the deal, you silly man, since you seem incapable of learning even the first thing about politics.

Obama's vote was a protest vote against the aforementioned lunacy.

He undoubtedly cleared it with the rest of the party to make sure it was just a protest and not part of a plan to actually not raise the debt ceiling.

/Which is, btw, an antiquated notion in this day and age.

Cos that's how politics works.

Pretty sure yer not gonna get any of that, I just occasionally like to try the impossible for kicks.

"The CBO projects that the cuts may land us back in recession and will result in 750,000 job losses this year alone. On top of that the bipartisan policy center suggests sequester won't have that much effect on our national debt. Debt as a percentage of GDP will reach 100% just two years later than otherwise."

i.imgur.com

"So to recap, no one wants a sequester, no one knows how it will work. It could be us back in recession and does almost nothing to reduce the debt. If that's the case then why don't both houses of Congress simply pass a one sentence law repealing it, and the President can sign it. Problem solved."

Actually, I did.  In my book Bush is one of the 3 worst presidents in history.  His out of control spending is a major reason, but crap like warrentless wiretapping and the TSA boondoggle contribute a lot also.

IMHO, I'd rather see the sequester happen rather than kick the can down the road.  Congress has to quit spending money it doesn't have.  If it takes a meataxe to amputate the arm to fix a hangnail, so be it.

unfortunately, the GOP would rather gut and destroy what's left of the middle class than force banks, wall street, corporations and the 1% to start kicking some of their vast hoard of wealth back into the country that helped make them all so very obscenely rich in the first place.
