Anybody can sing in key, but I'm a rebel, I'm unique. I sing what I feel. If you can't appreciate my artistic vision, well, that speaks volumes about you, doesn't it? Uncircumcised Philistines.

I made it to 2:00 laughing all the way.

He's the kind of tone-deaf person who would audition for American Idol and get shocked when the panelists all say "YOU ARE TERRIBLE!".

"But all my friends at the karaoke bar say I have a wonderful singing voice. I don't understand."

// [Country] Idol is nothing but a karaoke competition after all. A karaoke competition with a huge production budget.

Someone needs to find another guy doing this, on a different tone, and mix them together into an homage to this.

'Dreams I'll Never See' is one of my all-time favorites. Saw Hatchet open for The Outlaws in '79.  Great show.

If you lived in an apartment, this would be the perfect type of thing you could rip the audio from, delete his talking out of, save the piano and baaaaaaaaaaa, then insert about 15 minutes of silence at the beginning.  When you get ready to leave, hit play and leave with the volume up.

/used to live in an apt... would have SOOOO done that!!!

Holy shiat! How did you know that was what I was listening to?

Okay, I guess Molly Hatchet only has about 3 songs worth listening to, so you made an educated guess.

Oddly - or perhaps not oddly - enough I didn't even know Molly Hatchet played that song. I had to look into it further since I didn't even know they played that song. I thought it was an Allman Brothers tune.....and I was right, Gregg Allman wrote that. Strangely if you look that tune up on google I think 9 out of 10 f the first links came up with Molly Hatchet.

Hey man, I just like them for the Frazetta artwork.

:)

I'm just kidding about that. Molly Hatchet is alright, but I really didn't know they played Dreams and that was what I was listening to.

What Frazetta artwork might look like:

2013-02-25 01:34:25 AM
The real thing. (Yes, it really is for real. I know who this guy is, and he really can do that.)

And here's someone holding a single actual musical note (part of a four-part multitrack) longer than most of us could make it through listening to this video. (The American Lung Association should make this into an anti-smoking PSA, with the caption: "We've told you lots of reasons to not smoke, but this is the best yet. This is what a non-smoker can do." With a counter counting the seconds on the hanger [which starts at 0:08].)

Happy Hours: 'Dreams I'll Never See' is one of my all-time favorites. Saw Hatchet open for The Outlaws in '79.  Great show.

Holy shiat! How did you know that was what I was listening to?

I dunno man...I should be more drunk than I was earlier, but maybe I'm maintaining a steady or even declinging buzz.

I just went back and watched a youtube vid of Molly Hatchet (from a year or so ago) playing Dreams and I thought they murdered it. At one point I even said to myself they aren't even playing Dreams anymore.

Then I dug up a youtube vid of the Allman's playing it in '69 - with Duane Allman. Holy shiat, Gregg Allman should have put a hit out on Molly Hatchet.

One thing you can say about ABB is that they adapted and evolved. They may still have the same drummers (all 3 of them) and Gregg Allman on organ/keys but they still do their jobs well. But even though they've been around for years, the addition of Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes and Oteill Burbridge is what makes them still relevant today.

I feel bad about Dickey Betts, but I figure that was mostly his fault and Warren & Derek more than make up for his absence

I mean check this out:

Molly Hatchet 1979
Molly Hatchet 2012
Allman Brothers 1969
Allman Brothers 2003.
Oh wait, this one might be better -except for the fact that it's cut off before they finish.
Allman Brothers 2010
It seems little young Derek just keeps getting better and better

I dunno...actually, I do know. Molly Hatchet looked a little cheesy in 1979, but they were a much better band back then than they are now. You could even say they were beating the odds but ultimately were flirting with disaster. Maybe it was the Whiskey, man.

The Allman Brothers? Well, I really like their current lineup, but I'm still going to have to vote for the 1969 incarnation when Duane was still alive.

I mean if you ignore audio and video glitches in those vids the '69 version is the best and the Molly Hatchet versions don't even come close to measuring up.....just my opinion, YMMV

csb

I met Derek Trucks backstage at a little shiatty club in the '90s.
My friends and I were getting stoned while Derek strummed a sitar. He turned down our offers to share our pot with him but he didn't seem to mind that we were smoking. He was probably only 17 or 18 at the time. That was the first time I saw him play. Good times. It was the Derek Trucks Band (DTB) back then.

maybe Molly Hatchet just needs more drummers - yeah, that must be it.

Yeah completely tone deaf people are super funny.
