As much as I am mostly meh over nascar, Danicas pole has me watching this today. I predict a Chevrolet will win.  It's bold, I know.

From USA Today...
START TIME: At 1:18 p.m. Eastern, actor James Franco will instruct drivers to start their engines. After a few pace laps, honorary starter Ray Lewis will wave the green flag at 1:30 p.m. to start the 55th running of the Daytona 500.

Altair: There are NASCAR fans on Fark?  Or at all?

Hey, in 700,000 people you better believe it.

Try and keep the derp down today, casual fans. If you don't like it you don't have to gawk at it and comment.

Good morning to all Fark NASCAR fans! It's been a long offseason, but I'm so ready to spend the next 9 months doing what I do best -- among other things, posting more original pics and Nascarcasm tweets, enjoying FOX's early season coverage and then getting more disgusted as the year rolls on moving to TNT and ESPN. There's gonna be a whole bunch of funny and amazing moments, I'm sure. I'll be back later on, and thanks good_2_go for the *real* race start time once again. Now let's hope the rain stays away (I'm on the other coast of FL and we got a good chance for it today) and that it won't be the "36 Hours of Daytona En Fuego" again.

Oh, and of course:

A thread about the Oscars and a thread about the Daytona 500. They both start with someone having to tell us how much they don't care about it, as is the way with every "event" type thread.

I guess they were disappointed they didn't have a chance to do the oh-so witty comment "People still watch SNL?" last night since it was a rerun.

2013-02-24 09:48:33 AM
My local radio affiliate decided to drop NASCAR this season. :(  Even more reason to hate them!  At least they play old Casey Kasem countdowns, which is FAR more tolerable than those douchebags Ryan Seacrest and Rick Dees.

Anyhow, set idols to 'blow up or tear up Jimmie Johnson's car' WITH SAFETIES ON so no innocent bystanders get hurt or zapped by lightning.

/DAMNIT I CAN'T HEAR MAH NASCAR!!!

Yeah the way this thread started makes it seem like it's going to be a derp infested one today.

The trolling in last night's race thread was great. I laughed so hard.

Who will Daytona fans wear as they walk the red carpet?

2013-02-24 11:17:51 AM
I want to see Danica win sooooo badly. The carnage from the exploding redneck heads in the stands would be legendary.

Alas, it's not to be, so let's go with the old standby: Anybody But Jimmy.

Cool, the race thread got submitted good and early! To those of us in the Fark Yahoo Fantasy Racing group (http://racing.fantasysports.yahoo.com/auto/group/1456, pw is fark) make sure you lock in your drivers before start time! And would the trolls please stay away, yesterday's crash thread was enough trolling of us NASCAR fans for a while.

Got mine set! I asked the guys in our Carolina office for advice yesterday. Apparently they are the only people in NC that don't watch NASCAR.

Has anyone asked Danica how it felt to be sitting on the pole?
Trivia fact, the only driver today with roots in North Carolina (where NASCAR was born) will be Dale Jr.

Good Morning (west coast here) Gentlemen, the drinks are on ice the chicken is soaking in BBQ sauce with a bag of Kettle brand bake Hickory Honey Barbeque chips ready to be opened and just made a fresh pot of coffee. First off a moment of quite for the folks hurt in the grandstands yesterday............................................................. ........Thank You

Race day weather in my neck of the woods is cool and clear with temps in the low 60's with a slight breeze blowing, perfect for the 500 today. My picks today are #29 Kevin Harvick, #14 Smoke, #78 Kurt Busch and my longshot pick #55 (but he's in a Toyota) Mark Martin. Safe race today everyone be careful hitting the bathroom, fridge or kitchen because being a professional internet spectator isn't easy.

Here's the Final Fantasy Lineup for Swervin' Irvan's Vodak Moment:

Harvick, Jooonyerrr, Biffle, and she-who-shall-not-be-overhyped.

I know I'm taking a risk on that last one, but if it works out, it should work out big time.

Mine is Larry Stewart, Old Man Martin, The Biff, and Miss GoDaddy Hype Machine, and yes, I rolled the dice on her as well. And to the 13% of you who picked He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named: FOR SHAME!
