Is this that AM swapshop show?
I have a few items that I'd like to sell.
I have a dozen Mason jars.
I'll take 3 dollars for them.
I have 14 bags of paper shopping bags.
They are all clean and folded and there's at least 50 or so in each bag.
I'll take 5 dollars for all of them.
Finally I have the middle section of a harrow.
It's slightly bent on the front, but if you are good with a welder you can fix it right up.
I'll take 25 for that.  You'll need to bring a full bed pickup.

hng: Satan's Chocolate Starfish: Yeah, a good pair of gaiters are on my shopping list, too.

dude I was hiking with today was wearing a $20 pair he bought at an auto parts store in Anchorage... he's been wearing them all winter and says they are more than adequate. I'm kind of the same way with my gear. Some stuff I splurge on (like my pack), but other stuff I'm cool picking up at the Auto & Marine Supply store.

I've got a Gear For Adventure shop about a quarter mile from my house, so I tend to get my stuff there. I can pick up a nice pair of the high storm gaiters for about $30. They're pretty good about taking care of me. Like you said, I spend a lot on my packs and boots, so they don't take me on the other stuff. I just picked up a pair of Marmot's heavyweight snow pants from them and I think they were $62. I can live with those prices.

Not uncommon.  Alaska sucks up a lot of warming currents off the Pacific Ocean.  Occasionally it'll hit 50 in the middle of January if a chinook wind shows up.

We go through freeze and thaw cycles, but yeah, we spend a lot of time in the mid-30s.  Depends on the ocean currents and what they bring in.  No part of Juneau is more than about 4 miles inland.  Downtown is ocean, about four blocks, then mountain.

MissFeasance: Happy Hours: My point is I don't want to listen to your shiat and I don't want to play my shiat for you.

STOP LIKING THINGS I DON'T LIKE WAHHH

Meh - I never said anything bad about subby's radio show. I might even like what he likes. Who knows?

What I'm objecting to is the blatant plug on Fark's main page to "Please listen to music I like and think you should listen to also.".

And based on that, I won't even give it a chance.

NakedReporta: I imagine your the kind of guy that people ask, "Hey, wanna come see this jam band with us?" and you say something shiatty like, "No, jam bands suck and you suck for listening to them" instead of just saying, "No thanks, man, not my thing, have fun."

As much as I hate the term "jam band" (since it's meaningless) I do like some bands who get thrown into that category.

So let's pick on ABBA since they are a band I think sucks but has an above average number of fans for a band as old as they are. If they reunited and a friend said, "Let's go see ABBA" I'd probably laugh and say "No thanks, man, not my thing, have fun." And then I might poke fun at them from time to time as being my "ABBA fan friend" but if that's what they want to listen to I'm cool with it as long as they don't force me to listen to them.

Well, see, there's our problem right there. Because ABBA is awesome. Like seriously. Like I don't even count them as a guilty pleasure. A guilty pleasure would be Bread. Or Asia. Or "Sometimes When We Touch" by Dan Hill. Those are guilty pleasures. ABBA, they're right there with The Carpenters on my "Yeah, I like them, and quit laughing, and fark you for not acknowledging their artistry" list.

But I come back to the fact that nobody was forcing you to listen to soosh's show, anymore than anyone is forcing you to listen to ABBA. A farker has a radio show, and he submitted a link, and the mods/admins said "Hey, one of ours doing a late-night radio show, sure, we'll throw the link up there." It's your choice to click it or not, but there wasn't really any need to take it as some sort of personal affront or to comment negatively on it. That's all I was saying.

I also think you're probably listening to this show right now, you silly old troll, you.

Lorelle: soosh: I'm pretty sure his popularity didn't make it to Oklahoma.  I hadn't heard of him until a few years back.

Really? Troglodyte was a huge hit in 1972.

/I'm freakin' old

I was 4 in 1972, but you also underestimate how backwards Oklahoma is.

Nobody listens to radio anymore. Or podcasts, either. Or anything like it.

2013-02-25 02:05:53 PM
I'm a nobody?

Wait...don't answer that.

(truthfully, anyway).

Quite the groovy show you put on, Soosh.

2013-02-25 03:27:00 PM

soosh: postnobills: This may be a dumb question, but are these shows available as podcasts from anywhere?  I'm going to spending the next six months in a time zone that will making listening live basically impossible, and that is going to suck.

sort of.  you can download recordings of old shows here

and each week's show gets added a few days after the show.

My tail is massively vertical.

MASSIVELY.

Vertical.
