Yeah, at least there's not much decision making going on here. Brakes released and you're taking off, no matter what. Just hope you did the math right.

Landing would make departures seem like a walk in the park. The view on approach:

..is butt-clinchingly terrifying.

/least the runway appears to be smoother than Courchevel

The little 228s got their asses kicked by that Twin Otter.

The vodka burner is still the best takeoff video.

You people are drunk. Extremely drunk.

Why can't we comment on featured partner links like other links..I think some of the headlines would be great to comment and discuss..25 cereals of our childhoods is a fun topic..Sunny Boy, Red River, Cream of Wheat..then we could go into how the Toys back then were WAY better than they are now!:-)

ok, back on topic:

I'd have a heart attack if I had to land in a plane at Lukla like in that video styckx posted.  It looks like you basically have to almost slam into the side of a mountain and hope to god the brakes work. not for me thanks, I'll walk down to the bottom.

Because we'd shiat all over the sponsor as we rightfully should.

Thankfully Adblock also works on featured sponsor links and I never see them so there is ZERO chance of me accidentally clicking them.

Here's something to make your jaw drop, that's a paved runway in a town with no roads leading to it.

And of course, there's no radar. The airport gets a call from Kathmandu saying there's a plane on the way and that's it.

I guess if they want a longer runway in Lukla the Madeirans' solution won't work:

The runway is longer than it a piers...

But at least at Lukla they don't have to worry about traffic, as in Gibraltar:

Or highrise apartments, like they used to in Hong Kong:

Fark that.  Fark that with a flaming cactus.  Watching him run out of runway and have to roll straight into a small parking lot and then maneuver until he ran out of momentum made me shiat diamonds.

/On the bright side, free diamonds.

That is unbeloyvable.

The takeoff isn't as bad as it looks. On a shorter runway, you hold the plane down until the last minute. Sure, there isn't exactly room to abort, but that that's not really completely unusual for bigger planes or smaller airports or both (respectively speaking).

Besides, those little CASA C-212s have 10 to 1 wings and uncomfortable amounts of lift on takeoff. Really, if you don't hold them down, you just pogo down the runway. As for the runway, its 460m. Bare minimum for the Casa at full weight is 400m. Takeoff is within tolerances. That said, landing looks like serious brown-pants time.
