WhyteRaven74: Here's something to make your jaw drop, that's a paved runway in a town with no roads leading to it.
WrathofDog: The takeoff isn't as bad as it looks. On a shorter runway, you hold the plane down until the last minute. Sure, there isn't exactly room to abort, but that that's not really completely unusual for bigger planes or smaller airports or both (respectively speaking).Besides, those little CASA C-212s have 10 to 1 wings and uncomfortable amounts of lift on takeoff. Really, if you don't hold them down, you just pogo down the runway. As for the runway, its 460m. Bare minimum for the Casa at full weight is 400m. Takeoff is within tolerances. That said, landing looks like serious brown-pants time.
danno_to_infinity: there's a video of a russian prop plane, taking off from a mud field. I thought surely it would end badly.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWUG1FuALaw

I know a lot of Russian military planes have mud deflectors on the gear, but that's ridiculous.
