wambu: Also watching the romantic gesture: an FHP trooper, . . .Having solved all other crimes . . .
Zeno-25: All too often, the free market fails to take into account the realities of a finite resource being depleted.
RealFarknMcCoy2: zvoidx: Where is the responsibility of a citizen to have knowledge of this and all laws?Is that also a law?It is, and has always been, YOUR responsibility to know the law. If you don't know what laws may relate to - for instance - releasing helium-filled balloons, then you shouldn't do it without first ascertaining if it is legal. Same goes with jaywalking, stopping at stop signs, graffitti and any other unlawful act. Your responsibility to know and obey the law./just sayin'//don't think he should get jail time, particularly for a first offense.///do think that releasing helium-filled balloons should be illegal - kills lots of turtles. :-(
Gyrfalcon: Zeno-25: Another interesting anecdote about Florida having crazy wildlife protection laws despite being a relatively red state: I have stayed at a condo in Panama City Beach and the lights on all of the patios facing the Gulf had dim, yellow bulbs. So dim you could barely see around while on said high-rise patio. The reason given for this dangerous lack of light was that anything more intense would distract the sea turtles, causing them to crawl away from the ocean when they hatched.People going over those patios at night is not uncommon, especially during spring break. But hey, it's for the turtles.Considering the people likely to fall over the patios in Panama City during spring break, I'd say the turtles get the nod in that case.
Mirandized: A mylar balloon across a power grid would simply vaporize and you might notice it as static on your stereo.
fusillade762: Do a quick Google for "mylar balloon power outage" and get back to us.
BolshyGreatYarblocks: To dodge that charge in FL, just make sure each balloon has anti-Castro propaganda attached. Tell the cops you were taking advantage of the southerly wind, and ask the local TV station what the commie-luvin' cockaroach puta of a DA has against Freedom.
Lee451: Is it still littering (in Florida) if the balloons land in another state/offshore in international waters?
Day_Old_Dutchie: The problem is, an American politician can always count on "tough on crime" as am excellent vote getter, so, let's make every minor crime a felony with nice, long sentence in a program pretty much guaranteed to make one more of a criminal during their stay. Regardless of the high cost, now and the future. Because politicians are a pampered class that DESERVE their seats.[s18.postimage.org image 674x466]I mean you guys toss your income tax evaders into the slammer. Does that make any sense from a financial standpoint? Try to think it through.Really, the rest of the civilized world thinks you are absolutely barking mad.
Mirandized: I once witnessed a man drop a 9" screw driver across an incoming 440V power bus. It exploded with a flash like lightening and a clap of thunder. Luckily the man wasn't injured, but the screw driver was GONE. A mylar balloon across a power grid would simply vaporize and you might notice it as static on your stereo. The cop must have been in revenue enhancement mode when he made this arrest. The man should have bee let off with a warning. If he goes to jail it should be for dating a girl named Shaquina.

MNguy: Where do you think China is at on that graph? Or Venezuela? Mexico?
Ima4nic8or: I was about to say that I would expect this kind of crap from CA, not Florida. Then I saw the "criminal's" picture and it all came together. Dont be black when releasing balloons.
