I'm surprised they could get a quote out of him after he committed suicide last week.

2 things that've always bugged me about Vedder....

- When Bush won (albeit years ago) he shaved down to a mohawk saying he'd keep it that way until "blah blah something political madness ends blah blah". That lasted a month or so...

- When the band won an award, he got on stage and said something along the lines of "well, I don't really know what this is for or why I should care". Then why did he bother showing up if he wasn't going show some level of gratitude?...

Dunno why, but those just stuck with me.

Pearl Jam is routinely one of my favorite bands to see live; always well over 2 hours of good tunes and jamming without much wankery. However, I almost never listen to them for leisure on my iPod or whatever. I'm not sure what that says if I make a point to see them every 3 years or so, yet outside of those concerts, rarely even think of them at all.

/it's not really a case of nostalgia either, as I was a bit young to appreciate Ten as anything other than "popular when I was in elementary school" and didn't give a sh*t for their other studio releases.

i'm not a fan per se but like many of my age, "Ten" was de riguer listening and yes, there is a chance that I wore flannel (but no chain wallet) for a brief spell......

i saw them once and they farking ROCKED.  they farking rocked.  something like 30 songs over like, 2.5 hours.  in the midst of a late fall thunderstorm (eddie several times saying "there's a pretty amazing light show going on courtesy of mother nature") he said, "we only booked this place [Phoenix] to get some nice weather.....instead I guess we brought Seattle with us."  he also introduced either "Evenflow" or "Alive", one of the Big Hits, as "this is called, 'Gutter Punks On Speed'."

it was a farking awesome show and I'd go see them again.

Best live band out there. I'm looking forward to the new album because album = tour. I've seen them practically every year (often multiple times) since 1998 and they never disappoint. Got tix for the Wrigley Field show in July, and I know it'll be worth the trip to Chicago.

I don't know why the band (especially Eddie) gets so much criticism here on Fark. They are great musicians and they treat their fans pretty darn well. There aren't many bands that give preferred seating to fans and actually value their input about how they do things.

Maybe I'm a bit biased because I've been following them so long but I've met a lot of cool people when they are on tour and it's fun to travel around the country to see them play. I can't imagine stopping until they do.

Probably because his "singing" is incomprehensible moaning and all of their songs feel like they go on for about a month each.

I am a big Pearl Jam fan going back nearly 20 years, and english is my first language, but I gotta say Eddie Vedder can be pretty damn difficult to understand.  Sometimes it's hard to tell if he's dragging on a note or just moaning in tune.  I like the band, don't get me wrong, but it's a valid point about the singing.

They're one of those bands that I respect even though I hate their music.

Been a fan for, wow, 19 years and in April I will see them live for the first time, in Chile. Words can not express the level of excitement. Had to travel halfway across the world to get the chance. It's quite literally a dream come true.

I'm going lukins

Like I said, I'm probably a bit biased because I know their songs so well. I understand the older, faster songs like Evenflow and such can be a bit jumbled but their newer stuff, especially the mid-tempo and slower songs, are pretty easy to understand every lyric. His solo stuff is very easy to sing a long with. He's gotten a lot better about enunciating words. I can't count Yellow Ledbetter against him, the song really doesn't have any set lyrics to begin with. It's one of those songs that are so much fun live cause he changes the words every single time it's played.

Incomprehensible is a harsh statement and a bit different than "hard to make out a few words".  That's the point I was arguing.

That's rough. My sympathies to your family.

I have a similar history, my Mom passed away in 2003, and a month later I went to 3 Pearl Jam shows. In 2006 my Dad passed away and I went to 2 shows a few months later. The shows were my therapy and the only thing I had to look forward to, as they were already planned, to help get me through it.
