(Talking Points Memo)   McCain aide says the "you need some straight talk" video was heavily edited. Fails to mention that the edited portion was just a grumpy old man glaring at the mother for 10 minutes   (livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com) divider line 89

Is it just me or is McCain actually morphing in Grumpy Cat?

2013-02-23 11:23:34 AM
He was also glaring at a guy who was upset about him not doing more to build a bigger fence across the border, so I think McCain is just grumpy in general. He clearly does not like spending time with the little people who vote for him.

You know, I'm hardly an expert on Final Cut Pro or Avid or any other video editing software, but I don't recall there being this "Make teh comment sound far worse than it is" plugin in either software that the Republicans seem to believe there is.

Yeah, it was edited to remove the other constituent he talked to at that same town hall, where he said "Occasionally I get a jerk like that guy."

2013-02-23 12:37:48 PM
Yes, it was edited, but the part that was edited was the basic McCain BS platitudes about "hearts going out" and that everyone was telling him XXXX and YYYY to the contrary.

Following that segment of lip-service, he launches into the "you need some straight talk" line in front of a very pro-gun crowd and that brings the applause and cheers. He knew what the reaction would be and belittled that woman to beat down the argument. The net result is a picture of a government official who has written off making any effort to affect change as he clearly is supporting the gun industry. He even goes so far a bit later to give props to the NRA for their angelic actions promoting the oxymoronic idea of gun safety.

He doesn't care. He never has. All his "straight talk" BS is just a mask for his lust for the kill. If he can't get the country to sing along with him to "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb-bomb Iran", then it appears he will get his jollies watching people die at home.

That man is a disgrace.

I will admit that that sounded a little less like a dick, although he did say and mean exactly what the edited version showed. I put that on the level with Winston Wolf saying, "pretty please, with sugar on top, clean the f*cking car."

So the video edited out five seconds of McCain delivering vague and inconsequential bromides before launching into insensitive remarks calculated to pander to the prejudices of the rest of the audience? But that changes everything!  I think McCain should take a good hard look at his career, decide not to run for re-election, and then spend the rest of his term telling the truth, working for the betterment of the country, and rehabilitating his reputation.

Arizona: Stop re-electing this nutball. McCain wrote the bill which defined the US as a "battlefield."

We do not need ultra-conservatives in our Congress.  They've f*cked up enough shiat already.

McCain was never a hero, nor did he receive awards for high valor.  What happened to him is too horrible to adequately describe, but that is not heroic; he had no choice about the suffering.  I truly hope he goes room temperature soon.

I think the problem is that he did that for the first half of his career.  Then he ran against Bush, who gave him a harsh lesson in politics.  He realized (somewhat incorrectly) that the only way to survive in politics is to be a dick.

Now, he's a "reformed maverick".

2013-02-23 01:43:48 PM
What mcCain's spokesman does not mention... is that both Caren and Tom Teves were there for the entire meeting. They heard the unedited, uncensored version of what McCain said. And Mr. Teves still said he would never vote republican again. It was the unedited version that caused him to say this.

So whether the report was 'edited' or not, the result was the same.

It's a programmed response at this point, entirely meaningless to him by how he'd try to use it here not knowing what else to say to try to look like he gives a shiat.

More than 2,000 Americans have died in gun violence here at home since Benghazi. McCain is too busy parading around the body of Amb. Stevens to be bothered with any of them though.

I was wondering about that, too. I guess it's what happens when 99% of what you say is composed of platitudes and talking points that you repeat so often they become second nature.

What McCain's spokesman failed to do was travel back in time and prevent McCain from behaving like an enormous a-hole.

The problem isn't with McCain's PR crew, or with editing, or coverage. The problem is that the senator from Arizona is an old, angry, increasingly unpleasant c*nt.

Look, being opposed to even relatively minor forms of gun control is a legitimate condition.  The bill containing the AWB being doomed because it'shiatching the AWB shiat to actual popular things like increased  background checks is... well, the plain truth.

What certain politicians need to learn is that even if your position is legitimate and you're speaking the plain truth, you still don't get a free pass to be a douchebag about it.

I mean, come the fark on.  This isn't the internet we're talking about here, you can manage not to be rude and condescending when you explain your shiat to a voter.

A Terrible Human: Just imagine if he and Palin had won.

Half of the first and only term would've been spent searching for a new VP.  Beyond that, though, the GOP wouldn't have had the horrifying cultural mandate they would have had if Romney had won.   The consequences of a 2008 GOP win would have been dire, but the consequences of a one term Obama would have been catastrophic.
