Saad scoring that short-handed goal was truly a thing of beauty.

No, they weren't. They were eliminated the day pitchers and catchers reported for spring training.

You are forgetting to factor in the 10 day mercy offset. I know it's a silly new rule, but some teams wouldn't stand a chance without it.

Odd thing about that statistic:

The Canucks have played them twice and are undefeated against them.

They already had a better record than the Ducks had.

Looking at those standings, I wish all of the major leagues would go with the thought that, yes, having divisions means a division winner should make the playoffs, but, other than that, it shouldn't have any effect on where you are ranked in the playoff seedings or if you get home field advantage.  Carolina as a 3rd seed in those standings is a joke.

For whatever you want to say about the NCAA tournament, at least they don't seed the "Some Conference you only hear about in March" champion with a #7 seed just because they won their conference.

Whoever is in charge of the Kings twitter account has a decent sense of humor. I remember they had a few gems during the playoffs last year.

It's funny... looking at their point total makes it seem like they really don't belong in the playoffs at this point (and they probably don't, tbh), but for having played 2-3 fewer games than all but the Bruins and Rangers, they're only 2-3 games behind the rest of those teams in ROW (i.e. wins not involving a shootout).

Not that this excuses their performance, but if they win their next 3 (Bolts, @NYI, @WAS), they'll be on par with others in the ROW dept., but will look out of place for not having as many OTLs/SOLs.

Oh, I understand it is a long season and they could even likely move up in the standings, but, you certainly get situations like that at the seasons end in most of the leagues at one point or another, especially the NBA, and even the NFL (the 7-9 Seahawks a few years ago).

Odd thing about that: the Canucks still manage to be the most classless team with the most classless fanbase in the league.

Q: What does a bartender give you when you order a Sedin? A: Two red-headed sluts on ice with no Cup.

/Yeah, it's a variation of the Ovechkin joke, but I think it's better, because fark the Sedins.

SJ's Ryane Clowe suspended pending hearing on Monday. Clowe will not play tonight in DAL but HC Todd (McLellan) will be behind bench.

Clowe was deemed by officials to have come off bench for purposes of starting altercation with CHI's Andrew Shaw in final 10 seconds.

Clowe has been offered in-person hearing, which would allow NHL discretion to suspend 6 or more games if it chooses.

One option is auto 10-game suspension but that carries with it one-game suspension for head coach. (McLellan) is coaching tonight.

If you're talking about the Hanson incident, it didn't even look intentional (unlike Keith's elbow on Sedin), so please don't try to strike a match with the "classless" talk -- EVERY team, and EVERY fanbase, has enough gasoline on their hands to scorch us all.

Let's not go down that road.

I'm a big Hawks fan, but I found that late hit by Shaw to be pretty bad; surprised Shaw didn't get a game misconduct for boarding on it. I'd hope he sits for a game or two on principle.

/as long as the Hawks don't face the Ducks or 'Nucks for a while, they could make a run at 35...

Keith'shiat, while I don't approve of it, was a retaliatory hit (as mentioned above).

The Canucks have a long history of playing dirty. Anyone that watches hockey knows that they are one of the dirtiest teams in the league.

Penalty-in-minutes stats also reflect things like delay of game, interference, or too much man.  That chart may be indicative of things like focus, fatigue, or discipline.  It certainly does not, by itself, indicate how clean or dirty a given team may be.

No, that's why there's also game misconduct and suspension categories.

All told, the Canucks are about middle the of the pack. Always have been. The worst teams every year seem to be Philly and NY Isles for some reason.

OK, so I just ran the numbers for Majors, Misconducts, and Game Misconducts for the last ten seasons.  The Canucks are top ten in Majors, top five for Misconducts, and top five for Game Misconducts (depending on how you rank ties).

So they're not the dirtiest team in the league over the last ten years based on those stats, but they're certainly not middle of the pack, either.

I honestly figured if they were tripped up by anyone, it would have been the Jackets to do it.

Last week I called it out as a potential trap game. I'm glad I was wrong enough for the Hawks to win.

On the good side, 1-0 is still a shutout, and it's great to see Crawford do that after being out. It's nice to have depth at the goal.

Meanwhile, Ro8erto 7uongo is back in form, with the Wings stomping the Canucks 8-3. I'm OK with that.
