Clearly the people defending children have never been a costumed character, nor do they have children.  Also, raise better kids for a better America, etc.

You do NOT want to grab one of his children by their necks. Trust me on this one.

As a furry who's also a fursuiter, I was ready to side with the rabbit, but after reading the article, even though the children were misbehaving, the wearer does seem to be awfully quick tempered

One of the kids in question was 14.

I expect they meant years, not months. A 14 month old pulling at stuff is acceptable. 14 years, not so much.

Still, characters in costume have to tolerate this abuse.

My CSB:

During the Easter season I get a lot of work doing jobs as the Easter Bunny. I don't usually have the benefit of having a handler, so I'm on my own. One year while passing out candy, this boy kept running up behind me and hitting the head. The head is fiberglass and my head is in a halo attached inside, so it's loud and it hurts. I try to wave my finger at him as in, "Don't do that," but that only encourages him more. He did it again but this time with such force he broke one of my ears! Then he had the nerve to ask for some candy. I broke a cardinal rule for headed characters and told him no. Said he was a brat and a punk and I don't give candy to kids like that.
Well off he goes and a few minutes later there's Angry Dad. Yelling at me asking if I called his kid a punk and wouldn't give him candy. I asked him if his son told him how he hit my head, broke my ear. Some other kids concurred with my story while the dad stood there coming to the realization I was in the right. I then asked for his name and address so I knew where to send the repair bill. Grabbed his kid by the arm, told him how grounded he was, and never saw them at that event (which I do every year) again.

Welp that explains your username. So do you take the suit to the dry cleaner or what?

CSB: They used to have a thing called "limited work" where if you were injured and can't do your normal duties you could still come in and get a paycheck by doing other menial tasks, such as filling up balloons in a room all day or putting batteries in flashlights. I meet a girl in limited work who was Winnie the Pooh. Her back had been badly injured when a teenager tried to hop on her for a piggy back ride. After talking with her I have zero sympathy for anyone who screws with the characters and gets hurt, busted, etc.

Also, your peripheral vision in those things is severely cut off as well as your hearing so people who complain that their precious little snowflake was being ignored need to try on the costume for a few hours and then try to find their kids in a crowd.

One more CSB: Grad nights - imagine thousands of unsupervised 18 year olds running around and celebrating their new status of "adulthood." We were told by our supervisors in no uncertain terms that we do not need to treat these new adults as though we want their repeat business. If someone gave you any crap, give it right back to them. Fortunately I didn't come across anyone disrespectful in those years. But it's been a long time.

Most fursuits are washed by hand and then allowed to air dry followed by brushing to floof up the fur.  The agitation of a washing machine and dryer, even on cold water and no heat, will cause the fur to get all matted and tangled.

My kids are your typical teens.  But they know enough to not pull some stuff like that because of what their mother would do to them.  She's a nice lady, Mrs. Funk, but if our kids are farking up, she will set them straight quick.  but she is also quick to jump in like the "mother bear" to protect her cubs when the kids are not in the wrong.  compared to most other children I see when we are out and about, my kids are actually closer to angels.

you got me all i could do to keep from shooting coffee on my keyboard.

but honestly, my kids wouldn't do stuff like this because even when they screw up (trust me three teens and the youngest is starting to experience puberty) they know to show respect for someone just doing a job.  I hate to show my age, but when i was a kid, if i acted out in public, i got my ass whipped on the spot and if i did anything like this, after the whipping, i would have been made to apologize.

You get an "act like an ass" pass up until the end of elementary school.  The "kids" in this story are teenagers...AND the dipshiat father who was giggling like a schoolgirl about his kids acting like pricks.

I was expecting this story to be about smaller children and was actually going to come in here to defend the little crotchlings, but it's a couple of 14-year-old girls. They should have been choked out then tossed from the park.

That's you're excuse when your 14 year old kids start picking on a stranger because they know the stranger can't fight back? I might excuse that kind of behavior from a 3 year old but a teenager should know better and you're a terrible parent if you disagree.

publikenemy: If you're job is being a white rabbit at Disneyland, you should expect to get your big white fluffy tail pulled. It's like a lure for children. Albeit not a 14 yr old, but still.

That being said, if I caught that rabbit all over my daughter like that, that camera would've been dropped straight away and rabbit stew for all

Is there an ITG meme specific for parents who would ferociously defend their kids?  If not, there should be one.  I constantly see the "If you did XYZ to my kid, I'd rip your head off".

No you wouldn't. You'd take it like a pussy you are, and maybe if you find your balls next week, you'd build up the courage to sue.  If you're female, you'd "make a scene" with whooping and hollering, similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DrzCVAJtDw

If you had any speck of intelligence you'd realize you'd need to get your kids under control and apologize to the bunny.

Have never personally worked parks (the only park really within commuting distance closed down a few years back) but I'd always heard from friends who HAD worked parks that the absolute worst time to work as an employee (and particularly in costume) was during "Christian days" where all the god-botherer youth groups would converge on the parks.

(In comparison, I'd heard from the two folks I'd known who worked WDW that Gay Day was probably the best time to work the park, all the people remarkably polite.  Also heard that Brazilian Travel Season was its own special flavour of hell, apparently.)
