FTFA: Diseny said: "This seems to be a blatant attempt by a lawyer to generate publicity for a case that has no merit. If anything, all this video shows is a family of misbehaving guests deliberately provoking a character for their own malicious amusement."

I like where this is going! I wonder if they will pull the race card for the white rabbit being so white?

Instead of complaining about the White Rabbit, maybe the parents should be parents and teach their kids to behave in public.  Those weren't little kids, so maybe those ill-mannered  brats are beyond hope.

My wife used to wear the character suit for her employer at marketing events and company outings. Children and Teens are evil and rotten little people to someone in a costume. I laughed my ass off at some of the things those lil bastards would do... Pulling on tail is #1. She'd get pissed, but she's not exactly known for her tolerance.

Disney to young women in white rabbit costume: we're going to find something else for you to do.  This obviously is not for you
Disney to young women assisting white rabbit: your services are no longer needed by the Walt Disney Company.
Disney to family of rowdy kids: this shouldn't have happened.  Here's a free park adult park hopper pass, please come visit us again when an adult can be included in your party to provide supervision for your children.
Judge to family: case dismissed.

I'm surprised Disney issued such a strongly worded statement in favor of an employee.

I thought they'd fire the actor just to appease the public.

They used to have such a rep for mistreating the actors.

CSB:

The family and I just went to Hong Kong Disney, which was an absolute blast.  There were lines to stand with any of the characters, who only showed up at preset times, and there was always some sort of normal staff with the cast members.  The staff were part of the reason we had such a good time.  I was pretty impressed with how cheerful they were and how they seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing.  Of course, all the kids I saw were moderately well behaved.

If you're job is being a white rabbit at Disneyland, you should expect to get your big white fluffy tail pulled. It's like a lure for children. Albeit not a 14 yr old, but still.

That being said, if I caught that rabbit all over my daughter like that, that camera would've been dropped straight away and rabbit stew for all

The family's lawyer said:

"It's classic evidence. They aren't supervised and they think they can get away with treating their guests very poorly. It's clear as day these cast members ... aren't too concerned about behaving badly in public," said Gilleon.

His wording is so fun here.  All the defense attorney has to do is swap the two highlighted words.

Acting like kids doesn't give you freedom to be a little farking nightmare in public and terrorize people just because you think they should be able to take it. I know this is rare especially for black people because their kids are always the best behaved children who never have supervision problems. Also kudos to the parents for not attempting some kind of racial lottery lawsuit. I know a lot of people jump at a chance to bait a response and then sue for it. I personally think that if someone can't control their kids then others have a right to beat them and the parents.

My wife was a character at some amusement park when she was a teenager. She says the kids were usually fine, it was the grown men who would cozy up to her for photos and grab her tits that were creepy as hell. Apparently it wasn't just once in a while, either, but several times a day when some grown man would think it would be OK to grab her. Of course, I'm just wondering what the men got out of grabbing George Jetson's D-cups, but whatever.

Several years ago I was drafted to march in my home towns bicentennial parade.  I was a 12 foot tall puritan with just a tiny patch of sheer material to see through. I was assigned a handler who was easily distracted.  Some youths though it would be fun to use their super soakers.  Given my limited vision the steam of water hit the eyeball, I didn't even see it to blink.  The other parade goers wondered why a puritan minister was swearing like a sailor.

I was the Georgia Tech Buzz mascot for two and a half years. 99% of the time I dealt with amazing, fun loving people; students, small kids and parents alike. However, there every once in a while I had to interact with a parent that was very aggressive... aggressive about getting just the right photo/interactions with just their kid (who was usually just happy to have a quick handshake or high five)... "Buzz, come here: BUZZ! Do this.. BUZZ don't be an ass; BUUUZZZZZ!!!".
Those parents were the worst, and would sometimes aggressively grab me to try and drag me to whatever position/photo they wanted. When I resisted they would get mad and confrontational. It was a lose-lose situation with me in the suit and attempting to stay in character. I had dozens to hundreds of other people that wanted just a moment with Buzz, and these prick parents would basically attack me. Buzz didn't talk, but if accosted I was pretty aggressive in pulling myself away (sometimes with a handlers help if they were on scene). I loved my time in the costume, but some people are just shiatty and can make it very, very hard for a mascot to both stay in character and say NO to overwhelming demands.

One of the kids in question was 14.

I expect they meant years, not months. A 14 month old pulling at stuff is acceptable. 14 years, not so much.

Still, characters in costume have to tolerate this abuse.

My CSB:

During the Easter season I get a lot of work doing jobs as the Easter Bunny. I don't usually have the benefit of having a handler, so I'm on my own. One year while passing out candy, this boy kept running up behind me and hitting the head. The head is fiberglass and my head is in a halo attached inside, so it's loud and it hurts. I try to wave my finger at him as in, "Don't do that," but that only encourages him more. He did it again but this time with such force he broke one of my ears! Then he had the nerve to ask for some candy. I broke a cardinal rule for headed characters and told him no. Said he was a brat and a punk and I don't give candy to kids like that.
Well off he goes and a few minutes later there's Angry Dad. Yelling at me asking if I called his kid a punk and wouldn't give him candy. I asked him if his son told him how he hit my head, broke my ear. Some other kids concurred with my story while the dad stood there coming to the realization I was in the right. I then asked for his name and address so I knew where to send the repair bill. Grabbed his kid by the arm, told him how grounded he was, and never saw them at that event (which I do every year) again.

CSB: They used to have a thing called "limited work" where if you were injured and can't do your normal duties you could still come in and get a paycheck by doing other menial tasks, such as filling up balloons in a room all day or putting batteries in flashlights. I meet a girl in limited work who was Winnie the Pooh. Her back had been badly injured when a teenager tried to hop on her for a piggy back ride. After talking with her I have zero sympathy for anyone who screws with the characters and gets hurt, busted, etc.

Also, your peripheral vision in those things is severely cut off as well as your hearing so people who complain that their precious little snowflake was being ignored need to try on the costume for a few hours and then try to find their kids in a crowd.

One more CSB: Grad nights - imagine thousands of unsupervised 18 year olds running around and celebrating their new status of "adulthood." We were told by our supervisors in no uncertain terms that we do not need to treat these new adults as though we want their repeat business. If someone gave you any crap, give it right back to them. Fortunately I didn't come across anyone disrespectful in those years. But it's been a long time.

Most fursuits are washed by hand and then allowed to air dry followed by brushing to floof up the fur.  The agitation of a washing machine and dryer, even on cold water and no heat, will cause the fur to get all matted and tangled.

You get an "act like an ass" pass up until the end of elementary school.  The "kids" in this story are teenagers...AND the dipshiat father who was giggling like a schoolgirl about his kids acting like pricks.

I was expecting this story to be about smaller children and was actually going to come in here to defend the little crotchlings, but it's a couple of 14-year-old girls. They should have been choked out then tossed from the park.

dstrick44: The kids are supposed to be able to act like kids.

Kids should act like kids, yes. Acting like an uncultured animal is not the same thing as acting like a kid.

/If your kids can't behave in public like decent mannered human beings, don't take them out in public.
//thanks, the world.

Careful there. Don't piss off dstrick44 unless you want a serious serious problem on your hands.

If you want to see a serious serious problem grab 1 of my children by his neck.

If you allow your children to misbehave that badly in public, I will ignore them and go for YOUR farking neck.

That's you're excuse when your 14 year old kids start picking on a stranger because they know the stranger can't fight back? I might excuse that kind of behavior from a 3 year old but a teenager should know better and you're a terrible parent if you disagree.

/acting "like a kid" is not a free license to be an asshole

strangeluck: I'm surprised Disney issued such a strongly worded statement in favor of an employee.

I thought they'd fire the actor just to appease the public.

They used to have such a rep for mistreating the actors.

That was before camera phones.......

publikenemy: If you're job is being a white rabbit at Disneyland, you should expect to get your big white fluffy tail pulled. It's like a lure for children. Albeit not a 14 yr old, but still.

That being said, if I caught that rabbit all over my daughter like that, that camera would've been dropped straight away and rabbit stew for all

If my teen had done that to the rabbit I would have helped the rabbit hold the little bi%$h down, you sir are part of the problem......

Wow, and to think of my children going down there, and spending 3 days in the DLand hotel, them being invited to attend a cast member birthday party, getting free swag, being led to the front of long lines, from others because they knew them by name after a few hours.

Oh wait, I had decent children.

Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: A Terrible Human: Cloudchaser Sakonige the Red Wolf: As a furry who's also a fursuiter, I was ready to side with the rabbit, but after reading the article, even though the children were misbehaving, the wearer does seem to be awfully quick tempered

Welp that explains your username. So do you take the suit to the dry cleaner or what?

Most fursuits are washed by hand and then allowed to air dry followed by brushing to floof up the fur.  The agitation of a washing machine and dryer, even on cold water and no heat, will cause the fur to get all matted and tangled.

Wanna know how I mat and tangle a furries' suit?

Is there an ITG meme specific for parents who would ferociously defend their kids?  If not, there should be one.  I constantly see the "If you did XYZ to my kid, I'd rip your head off".

No you wouldn't. You'd take it like a pussy you are, and maybe if you find your balls next week, you'd build up the courage to sue.  If you're female, you'd "make a scene" with whooping and hollering, similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DrzCVAJtDw

If you had any speck of intelligence you'd realize you'd need to get your kids under control and apologize to the bunny.

The kids deserved it.  He should have covered them in rabbit droppings.

DS1970: Now I read TFA...f*cking AA so-called "parents".

Should have known.  Absolutely typical black "parenting".

The people in this story weren't Black. That was another issue, with another family.

zombat: They were laughing throughout the entire video but now they want to sue?

The family said they didn't complain for fear of getting kicked out.

They were eager to stay but now they want to sue.

Have never personally worked parks (the only park really within commuting distance closed down a few years back) but I'd always heard from friends who HAD worked parks that the absolute worst time to work as an employee (and particularly in costume) was during "Christian days" where all the god-botherer youth groups would converge on the parks.

(In comparison, I'd heard from the two folks I'd known who worked WDW that Gay Day was probably the best time to work the park, all the people remarkably polite.  Also heard that Brazilian Travel Season was its own special flavour of hell, apparently.)
