I could buy Season Two to watch now, but I was already given Farscape the Series for the holidays, and I haven't started it yet.

There's going to be a wedding - quit being such a downer.

No one dies at a wedding except in Tarantino movies.

I'm guessing that said wedding will be at the end of the year, and the next season will be the second half of the book.

And then they can either take the series in a completely different direction than the books, or commit hara-kiri by adapting the snoozefests that were Feast for Crows and Dance With Dragons.

Watch both.  Game of Thrones is only 10 episodes a season.

i remember thinking that in terms of what was going to happen from the books the wedding might be the season opener, but that is probably not the case. I am looking forward to brienne/lannister journey.

Anyone on the fence about buying season 2 dvd, it was only 29.99 for the standard blu ray version at best buy. And it comes with standard dvds too.

The plan for those books is to integrate them so everything takes place in order, and then split it into however many seasons it takes to tell the story.  They've already said there's no way they're going to just not have characters around for a season or two at a time just because that's how the books were.

I didn't see any wedding, but I did see little miss Targaryen loosing her shiat once she gets to a city known for a certain industry.  That will make Mrs DFS6969 happy.

Robb (eldest trueborn son of Ned (Eddard) Stark [played by Sean Bean]) goes on the warpath after his father is killed. His army needs to cross the river desperately, so he makes a deal with the Freys (who control the only crossing for hundreds of miles) that he'll marry a daughter of theirs (i.e. she'll be queen should he win, and therefore Lord Frey's grandson will be King someday), in exchange for safe passage across the Twins (the bridge).

Unfortunately (for the Freys), Robb meets and is smitten by another, they make love, and his father's code of honor implores him to do the right thing, so he marries her, against his mother's wishes (Catelyn Stark née Tully). He figures he'll apologize to the Frey's later (or *puts on sunglasses* cross that bridge when he comes to it).

The eventual solution to avoid everlasting enmity is to wed Catelyn's elder brother, Edmure, heir to Riverrun, to a Frey girl, so they can all save face. Seems like a good solution, for now...

GungFu: I've watched both seasons and I'm still getting mixed up on who the fark is who.

I know the dwarf is Prince Dinklage, that's it.

The books do help with that, as you learn quickly who ends up mattering in the end. For instance, the leader of the group Ed sends out to arrest The Mountain during his brief sojourn on the Iron Throne? Yeah, he becomes one of the most important non-POV characters of A Feast for Crows (Book 4).

But if you keep up with the info on HBO.com (which is spoiler-free on anything they haven't aired), it should help.

I'll have to rewatch the series to be sure, but I think it's slightly different than that.  I'm pretty sure that's what happens in the book.  In the series, it seemed liked he genuinely fell in love with her.  Slight difference, but it does place the cause of his screw-up on emotion instead of honor.

heh heh, love the series. Funny thing is, i didnt watch the 1st ep. until about 2 months after Season 2 ended. I downloaded the first ep. about 2am on a Friday night [there was nothing else to do] and thought, if i like it, i'll download the rest.
I didnt got to bed until about 10am that night. Watched all of Season 1 non stop. Set up the downloading of Season 2 while i went to sleep and watched it when i woke up later that day.
A few months later i asked my 22 yr old son if he had seen any of the series and he said No. I had him and his gf come over and we watched the first ep., before the credits were done rolling at the end they asked me if they could stay the night so we could all finish watching Season 1 together. I gave them Season 2 on a hard drive to take with them.
Just a couple weeks ago i asked my brother [we were stuck under the same roof for a few days] if he'd ever seen the show. He hadn't. he is now hooked and eagerly awaiting Season 3.
Now, I'VE seen both seasons 1 and 2 at least.... 12 - 15 times. and even *i* cant remember who TF Edmund and Roseyln are??
Good excuse for me to watch the series again i guess.

Book #4 started as a boring mess of uninteresting characters. Stopped reading at about 1/4.
The TV series seems like a better edited retelling of the books so i wonder how they'll do book 4 with so many new uninteresting characters and long periods of time where nothing happens and the main characters are ignored.

They really weren't shown in the first 2 seasons on TV. In fact, really only Edmure is involved in the story until A Storm of Swords (Season 3&4 on TV), IIRC.

I read up to A Storm of Swords after the first season. It helps catching up on things you might have missed, but with the upcoming twists I kinda wish I wish I was still in the dark like I was for season 1. It's been long enough for me not to remember everything so I'm jetting out of this thread. See ya!

I think I'll sit this wedding out.  I have urgent business!  most urgent.  terribly sorry...but I'll send some relatives that I don't like to uh...show support!  yeah.  lemme just go and update their life insurance first.  oh no reason...I'm just a nice guy is all.

They'll combine books 4 and 5 for those seasons. It's the only way to do it. The best parts of those books would make some good tv. Except for daenerys.

It gives you a connection to the repercussions of war.

And a dance with dragons has some of the biggest playoffs I've ever read. As good as the series is, it still isn't properly encapsulating the story. You're missing out.

It's no surprise that the series now has its official cookbook. And, well, if you've seen a picture of GRRM, this reminds you of the old writer's adage "Write  what you know.".

That part was so shocking to me because it was probably the first time any character expressed real empathy for "the small folk" and what happens to them when lords decide to play their stupid games. Okay, maybe Daenerys did a few times.

Apparently not, I now learn.  I also misattributed his birthline - he's Catelyn's eldest (and only living) brother, not elder. I thought he'd been seen briefly (during all those war in the Westerlands scenes), but I guess they left him out of the cast 'til this season.

For those who may worry, it doesn't amount to much of a spoiler, since Robb already married Talisa, though I suppose it does eliminate the possibility that Catelyn would persuade him to annul the union (should such a thing be allowed under the laws of the Seven/Old Gods).
