MNguy: He should have just not plowed the road?  Here you get towed, have to pay cash at impound, and wait in line with 100 other idiots who didn't move their damn cars.

Sounds like you have experience with that

/got towed once because I illegally parked because everyone else was doing it.....I was an idiot too. I never paid the ticket though. Ha ha! It was 20+ years ago, I don't own that car anymore and despite being pulled over by the same PD that wrote me the parking ticket they never mentioned it.

So based on my experience you don't have to pay parking tickets.

The only other parking ticket I ever got was for parking for too long (I really didn't notice the 2 hour limit) but it was free. Seriously, my town rocks. You get one free parking ticket every 12 months.

Seems reasonable to me. I didn't even mean to be in violation.

Cash? Lotsa cash through bullet- proof glass. I let Mpls keep my car 20 yrs ago. Junk yards wanted me to pay them to take it off my hands. Cheapest way to junk a car. Still waiting for a storage bill of $2,512,000.

No checks and last I knew no CC's.  I haven't lived there for a few years though, so I'm not sure.  These Mass people complaining about a little more digging in the morning or even paying a small fine don't even know.

fknra: god people. the roads have to get plowed. someone has to do it. and if you park on the street, your car gets covered. don't want your plow guy to get his jollies off covering your car? park in a garage. don't have a garage? move to where there is less snow.

let the guy enjoy his job. its what he gets paid to do.

/well not anymore thanks to butthurt little snowflakes that complained.

I don't mind my dentist enjoying his job; in fact, it's in my best interest that he does. But I would very much mind if he licked the tears from my cheeks.

lack of warmth: Sounds like a lot of lost sleep caused him to find things silly funny, why is anyone surprised.  He really didn't do anything wrong, for it really is part of their job.  When we have a really bad snow fall that requires me shoveling the full length of my driveway, I clear the shoulder in front of my yard.  It solves two problems: first the snow clears off the plow before my driveway and doesn't rebury it, second guarantees usps can reach my mailbox.  However, if everyone wants to be whiney about it, I guess fire a guy for doing his job and having sleep deprivation.

A buddy of mine works for a DPW, and shared some of his plowing stories.  One story was how residents were told NOT to put Christmas trees to road, but one day plowing he noticed a tree on the road and couldn't stop to do anything about it, the tree was launched into the yard standing up like it was planted.  He is the type of guy who knows his residence well enough to make sure roads with elderly will get plowed early, but he has residents that will call the DPW to complain that an ambulance can't get down their road just to get their road plowed right then.  No ambulance was ever dispatched.  Don't complain about your local taxes when you pull crap like that.  He works for one of the nicer parts of MI, and sees some crazy DPW hate.

He wasn't fired for plowing the cars under. He was fired for posting a video of himself on Youtube laughing and bragging about it.

And please don't use lack of sleep as an excuse. The lack of sleep didn't cause him to post the video, being an asshole caused him to do that.

I guarantee this is exactly how it happened.

Executive summary: "I was inconvenienced so I felt justified in parking illegally and got caught."

That's a guy with some serious asshat issues. Gets towed for parking in a handicap zone and goes all nuclear on some old woman and blames the city too. What a dick.

I was tired when I posted it, but that last line was about a person making a false report of an ambulance trying to get down a street and couldn't.  They dispatched trucks from other places to help the ambulance which messes with the efficient plan they were using.  Not a big deal if an ambulance really does need to get through, however that incident was just a selfish troll.  My friend and his crew put in long hours like the driver in the story and screwing with their plow plan causing them to lose an hour or more of sleep.  It's a lot if you only have three hours to sleep between shifts.  That last time I saw him, he had never got to bed between the night before and 11 am when I saw him.  He was starting to get that 'stupid funny' tired when we met.

I got why he was fired, the lack of sleep is why he thought it was really funny and posted the video.  However, nothing about the video is worth firing the guy.  The only difference about this guy or any another person recording and posting this is this was the laughing during the video.  He had a job to do and after awhile of people screwing with you, doing what you are told to do so THEY can get out of THEIR driveway and it gets to you.

The lack of sleep may have made him think it was funny, or the fact he is an asshole may have made him think it was funny. But the lack of sleep isn't an excuse for him posting it.

As for him getting fired, many people have jobs that require them to do things that hurt and upset other people. In some jobs it is unavoidable and just a part of the job. But it is unacceptable to post a video of yourself laughing at the misery that carrying out your job caused to somebody else. That is the reason why he was fired. Just imagine if a insurance  claims adjuster posted videos of people's reactions when he denied their claims, or a loan officer posted video of himself laughing and mocking people while he approved the foreclosure of their homes. They would be fired also because doing something like that is unprofessional.

You're actually proud of yourself for doing it too, aren't you?

This guy got me so fired up that I took my snow blower and buried several of my neighbors cars and driveways.  When everyone saw what happened, I told them the plow driver did it.

I believe the solution involves dump trucks and a large body of water. Could be problem for Fargo, but not for NYC.

This is what happens with the snow plow thankfully comes along.  If you shovel it out again each time you hear the plow, there is less and less snow each time.

The way that is dealt with is to tell people not to leave their cars parked on the streets when a big snow is coming or when their is a lot of snow on the ground. Everybody who lives in a city that gets snow knows this, however some people don't have a place to park their cars besides the street so they have to deal with it.

As for dumping the snow in a body of water, that is snow removal. First the snow has to be plowed to clear the streets for traffic. That is what is being done in the video. After the snow has stopped and the streets are clear, some cities will remove the snow from vital areas if their budget permits. And when they do this, they have designated areas where the snow is supposed to go. The snow only gets dumped into the water as a last resort if they run out of space. The reason for this is that the snow removed from the streets will contain road salts, oil, gasoline and other pollutants from cars and pedestrian traffic that you don't want to have dumped in a lake or river.

Well, here during the winter you have to park on the correct side of the street on any given day (even / odd).  Driveways are just an unfortunate consequence of pushing snow to the curb - they don't aim for driveways, but there's no way to avoid pushing snow onto the driveways, either.  The entire side of the road, curb and driveway alike, gets a big pile.

When you live here, the smartest thing is just to get a good snowblower; it makes quick work of things.

Because the snow has to go somewhere other then the middle of the street, and when you use a plow, all the snow in the middle of the street ends up on the side of the street, burying cars and plowing in driveways.

Any other option would require a front end loader to shovel the excess snow into a dumptruck to be hauled off. That, or a truck sized snow blowing unit, which would just hurl snow into houses and through windows.

The side of the road really is the best place for it.
