I have no idea how someone could care so much about someone else having Christmas lights up year round.  My neighbors have various colored lights up year round all over the front of their place.  Why should I give a shiat?  If she's 84 I might ask if she wants me to help her take them down, but that would be about the most I'd care.

If they install Xmas lights on MY windows or MY porch or MY dog, then I'll care.  Maybe.  Not if they're tasteful I guess, and seasonable.  Probably.

I digress.  The letter was really, really crass, but how was it threatening enough that the police really care?  Maybe the "don't make me tell you again" was the part that was threatening enough they want to investigate?  Maybe he just meant, "don't make me tell you again or I'll start decorating my house with strippers and taco trucks."  To me, strippers and taco trucks all over a neighborhood sounds like a great place to live, but I bet it would drive that woman crazy.

Someone who cars that much that a LOL in the neighborhood likes her Christmas lights too much is a bit deranged if you ask me. When that somewhat deranged tells a LOL "don't make me tell you again", it's time to involve the police. So fingerprint the idiotic note and go have a talk with the sender. Then send them a bill for the cost. Call it the "asshat tax".

They're not Christmas lights, they're holiday lights. There is a holiday of some sort every month but August. Right now, they are in transition from being President's Day lights to being St. Patrick's day lights.

Old woman loving life while she still can. Go granny go.

Neighbor two houses over has had at least 1huge tow-behind camper in his driveway since moving in 4 years ago. Sometimes they have 2. Never 0, not once. Looks like hell. Fark 'em. Evidently they are too stupid to just sell the thing they are not using and enjoy the money.

That's racist! And she didn't look white either.

But yeah - her house, her lights. She can do what she wants.

If you get so upset about xmas lights on your neighbors house that you threaten an old lady you should seek help.

Now, if you set up speakers in front of your house and crank up some Xmas music and stand in front of my house which is across the street so you can watch your specially audio-synchronized light show late at night and after it's over start yelling encore I will open the door and suggest an encore is not in order.

They did it again this year, but not so late at night and they kept the volume down so I didn't say a word to them.

I drive home from work shortly after midnight every week night. I like that there are still some lights wired up in some trees on the way home. It's pretty and fun, and non-boring. People that are upset about this need to get a life, or at least a sex life.

There's about a half dozen pronunciations depending upon what part of the state you're in. I've definitely heard armadiller, armadilly, armadilla, armadillo, army-diller, army-dilla, and I heard an old timer call one a Sherman possum (after the Sherman tank, I think).

It seems like I learned that "consistency and conformity are the hobgoblin of small minds" in high school.  So, I often like it when someone bucks the trend of being exactly like everybody else.  I can admit that I really do like to see one or two people leave their lights up much longer than everybody else, even if it is all year.

With the exception of HOAs, the day it becomes illegal to practice being a nonconformist is the day the next Revolution begins.

FTFA - she turns them off at 7 PM.  In a few weeks, it won't even be dark then anymore.  I say "Go Granny Go".  I love my pagan lights.  I always get so damn depressed when we 'have' to shut them off at little christmas (jan 6).  This year, I decided to do something about it.

On the second floor, I have two window lights on each end of the house.  They provide enough illumination (orange lamps, my favorite) that they give the impression of warmth and act as a night light too, for those late night bathroom runs.  This is the first year that I've kept them on since Black Friday and it has made an immense difference in my disposition.  Once it starts being light in the morning when I get up, probably around DLST (in just over 2 weeks), I'll shut them off until next november.

If I could afford to switch to all hi-quality LED lights (it would be thousands of dollars), I'd do it in a heart beat, and keep the whole house display on until the First Day Of Spring.  fark what anybody else says about it.

2013-02-23 11:13:24 AM
Here's my plan:

Get Bernie Tiede out of Jail, let him stay with this little old lady (provided she isn't rich and she's a sweetie who won't drive him nuts by being a biatch)  and next time someone has an issue with the lights, she can remind the jackass of what her new bodyguard (Bernie) used to be in Jail for, LOL!

/"Bernie" (and Jack Black) was robbed by the Academy Awards!
//aside from the height issue, Jack black was VERY convincing as Bernie Tiede

2013-02-23 11:28:39 AM
I'm sure the letter-writer had no idea the lights belonged to a little old lady. If they'd known that, they probably wouldn't have written it.

/I bet they feel sheepish now

She's 84 so he daughter is like 50?-60? Is she retarded? Seriously, she's keeping them up because her daughter liked Christmas this year? WTF?
Something tells me she knows she is about to die. She feels this will happen when she takes the lights down. Old people get weird like that.

danno_to_infinity: just_another_asshole/jaa: Got to wonder just how bright the lights are, she says she turns them down around 9:00. Now a bunch of bright lights that stay lit all night, well it's enough to make Clark Griswold take notice!

I keep a string of lights up inside all year, so when it's party time they are ready to go, just plug them in!

As someone  who got a "reminder" from HOA to take the christmas lights down - I am getting a kick out of this thread. (In my defense I was just too lazy).

I have orange Halloween lights and a string of wicker light-up balls on my balcony. The kids like them when we eat out there. If anyone complained I would have a hard time not laughing in their face. Don't you have any real problems to work on? Get a hobbie.
