Yay! Voice commands! Now I can talk to myself loudly while looking like an idiot.

Google, please let this be controlled via bluetooth HID as well.

The problem with "take picture", and "record video", is it really makes it tricky to secretly record that girl you're stal... erm. People around will know what you're emailing away.

There's gotta be a way to retrofit it onto your current glasses. Come on, how many employees at Google *don't* already wear them?

I'm eagerly anticipating the first injury/casualty attributed to these things, whether it be from a distracted driver, or maybe someone walking into a manhole cover.  Have we set up a betting pool yet?

the thing i don't get is what precisely this offers me that i don't already have with my cell phone, other than uncomfortable feeling of wearing unecessary glasses, in exchange for a slightly quicker ability to take a picture.

To be honest, I'd buy this product in a trice, provided, of course, that it can be purchased in my prescription.

The trouble with cool sun glasses and products like this is I am myopic and astigmatic. I will absolutely have to have prescription lenses. I can not wear fake glasses to make me look smart. Having glasses is integral to my smartness. I look dumb squinting through fake glasses. And most sunglasses don't work well over real glasses.

I'm too cheap to buy prescription sunglasses when staying in the shade is so much better for my Northern European vampire complexion. If they don't sell Google eye-glasses with lenses, I'm not going to buy them.

No glass, no sale.

And by the by, are these "projection glasses" or is what you see what you get? That screen looks too small to read my ebooks on.

I'm sure you will be able to change the voice commands so you can say something other than "take picture" or "record video". For example, "Wow! What a dirty old man I am!" or "Wowza! Would you look at the hooters on that owl!"

But you do bring up a valid point, and another reason to knee-cap anybody you see wearing augmented vision wear. It's getting so you can't trust anybody or anything to let you alone.

2013-02-22 04:44:19 PM
I don't think I'll buy them yet, but these types of products have great potential. The GPS navigation, for me, is the best part about them.

This product offers several advantages over the cellphone.

One, you look less like an idiot with these glasses on. They allow you to walk around or stand around look like half an idiot, half cybernetic aids.

Two, the glasses are more visible than an ear bud or Bluetooth over-the-ear device, so people have better and earlier warning that an idiot is approaching, paying no attention to their environment. Instead of walking around talking to your self, you can walk around talking to your eyeglasses.

Three, when thieves snatch these off of you, they are less likely to rip off your hand or your ear. And trust me, at the prices that Google is charging, thieves will be taking a greater interest in these than in cellphones, which they can find lying around every where.

Wish I had one of these when I was with my last gf. I would have recorded all the farking lies she told me and saved it into perpetuity.

Of course, she'd still just deny she said any of that. And her friends would believe her.

The rest of the videos I could dump on 4chan.

That's silly. You're only supposed to use these where you'll find rich people, like the ballet, skiing at any nice resort, hot air ballooning, in a plane during an aerobatics exhibition, etc.

2013-02-22 05:13:24 PM
I want this SO bad but I'll wait a generation for the mass beta to work out some common bugs.  Also, $1500 prices it right out of my market for even the neatest of toys.  Cut the price in half and we'll talk,  Get it to $300 and I'll buy a pair for everyone in the family.

I can't see more than five inches in front of my face without correction. I go to the Eye doctor and he asks the letter I can see; every time i have to say "I know the biggest one is 'E' but I can't see it.

Let me know when Google Contact Lens is a reality.

fark that, let me know when Brain Computer Interface is available to everyone.

Now, now the $1,500 is for the devkit version, IIRC. Seriously though, I want to see a teardown of one already.

But seriously, fark voice control. Needs gesture support, BT HID, or if we want to get really fancy, gaze tracking.

Hopefully there is some sort of voice identification or something that goes along with them.
Although I do look forward to seeing some guy wearing a pair of these, sitting down beside him and saying,
"Okay glass.  Google image search. Scrotal tumour."
Could make for an interesting reaction.

No idea if Glass uses it or not, but collimated light has a infinite depth, see red-dot and holographic gun sights.

You know they can render it to focus further away than 1cm from your eyeball, like optical infinity, right?
