Didn't realize they were bringing back Susan, Ian, and Barbara as well.  That's great.

Not as thrilled to have the Daleks as the villains for the big anniversary show, though.  I know they're kind of the iconic Who villain, but they've really been run into the ground during New Who.

No, the "50th anniversary special" as subby mistakenly called it is a made-for-TV movie about the behind the scenes genesis of Doctor Who and how a woman producer managed to get the show on the air.

So, this has nothing to do with the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode coming up. Although since the original TARDIS set is rebuilt now...

Hmmmmmm disappointed now. I hadn't even noticed the crew, cameras, monitors, etc look like they are from the early 60's. I'll still watch the movie though. I like all things "Who" and have seen every episode ever made....that still exist anyway.

I didn't realize we were getting multiple things for the anniversary.  So let me see if I have it clear now.  We get both of the following in the fall:
1) A 50th anniversary TV-film "documentary" about the inception of the series.  Which is what the lookalikes are for.
2) A 50th anniversary episode which includes most (if not all) Doctors, with the first two Doctors being video reconstruction/CGI.

Do I have it right?

I think mostliving Doctors aside from Eccleston are very strongly rumored to be involved, with Eccleston a possibility.

Sort of. We are getting the documentary and the schedule, but it hasn't been confirmed yet how many Doctors may be involved in the anniversary episode. Rumors are saying all 11, but there's nothing concrete yet.

Oh, also, there are short stories being published for the 50th anniversary. One each month on the 23rd of the month for 11 months.

Is there some story behind that I've never heard, or are you just confusing the space ship from The Sensorites (IIRC) with a TARDIS?

No, the set in TFA is a recreation of the one from the 10,000 BC serial, which was the first aired episode.

The shot you posted is from The Sensorites, and is from the spaceship on which the TARDIS lands, not the TARDIS itself.

That's not  quite right. This year will see...

1) "An Adventure in Space and Time" which is a TV movie recreating the early days of "Doctor Who" (which is the source of the pix in TFA)

2) The second half of Series 7 (Doctor traveling with Clara)

3) 50th Anniversary Special (stand-alone anniversary episode, like the annual Xmas specials, possibly with multiple Doctors)

4) "Doctor Who Revisited" (11 half-hour documentary specials being aired at various times, probably in conjunction with the above broadcasts)

/could they make it any  more confusing?

Oops. I was mistaken about this:

"Doctor Who Revisited refers to the BBC America specials to coincide with the premieres of classic stories. They are showing one story from each Doctor, beginning 27th January with Hartnell story The Aztecs."

Isn't Doctor Who Revisited is being played in conjunction with a classic serial, at least on BBC America?

Let's see: Mark Gatiss wrote this docudrama.  Gatiss has written numerous Docto Who episodes.  He's also co-creator with Steven Moffat on Sherlock, has written almost half the episodes of that show, and plays Mycroft.  Both Gatiss and Moffat love playing games of all sorts, especially with the audience.

So, maybe?

I think the BBC is still pissed off over that one.  But if anyone could get it rebuilt, it would be Moffat & co.

IIRC, it was put into storage between seasons and when it was pulled out for use in the new season, the wood had all warped.

So... maybe they're pissed at their own improper storage methods ruining what looks like an expensive set?

They stored it between series and it disintegrated.  They ran a tight ship, and having spent money on something like that, they expected to get a lot of use out of it.  It's why they reverted to the previous set rather than try to rebuild the wood paneled one.

So in the fall, will they actually start Season 8 after the anniversary special or is the Fall just

3) Christmas

I'm just wondering when Season 8 will begin (either fall or spring 2014 with seasons running spring to fall)

It is strangely compulsive. And shows the BBC attitude at the time that they gave away their Daleks and had to beg to borrow them back.

If anyone is wondering why the Hartnell TARDIS control panel was given that funny hospital green color, it is because it was meant to be filmed in black and white. Some technical reason, having to do with the cameras in use at the time, meant that color green would produce a more reliable white than actual white. It might have had something to do with avoiding camera glare. When they switched to color cameras, they left it green as it was still a reasonable industrial color for electronics.

K9 and Co had the worst title music of anything ever, but the actual story was good. Pity it never got past the pilot stage.
