Jones and Gramm...could slow it down with hits like "I Wanna Know What Love Is" and "Cold as Ice" that helped foreshadow the ballad-driven rock of the late '80s.

Cold as Ice is not a ballad. A responsible journalist who took a small semblance of pride in their job would cite "Waiting for a Girl Like You" which actually is a ballad. I guess simple knowledge and/or research isn't required for online articles. They can always change it later, the thinking goes.

Joe Perry is a guitar god and Aerosmith's early years is some of the greatest rock we have.

They don't get the credit they deserve, imo.

Let's remember them this way:

userserve-ak.last.fm

As a bunch of kids that couldn't stop getting kicked out of school for grass possession so they said: "screw getting an education, let's become rock gods"

Their music didn't go down hill until they had to sober up and then a few years later thought "hey, I bet we can write music sober"... and they gave us the atrocity that is 'Permanent Vacation'

They were able to salvage themselves after that, with Pump and Get a Grip being two of the best late 80's/early 90's rock albums.. period. I think they tried something new (aside from the ballads) with Nine Lives but it didn't take with most. After that they just decided to crank out crap. All said, I think they are well deserving of the award.

/when I re-read this in preview, I heard it in Patrick Bateman's voice
//HEY, PAUL!
