Image 18 or 20, the chick has had a giant demonic vagina tatooed on her chest.  Why?  I need an explanation for this.

MurphyMurphy: I've seen some great tattoos in my day.

Nothing that comes close to that. That is photo quality.

There are "artists" and then there are artists.

And there are cake decorators and there are cake printers.

Maybe there are cake tracers, kind of like Banky.

homelessdude: lilplatinum: You could remove the tattoo..

I have no tattoos so I don't know.....but is that not really painful?

So I've been told. I have heard though that it is painful and expensive. It takes more than one treatment and the results can be less than ideal. There's a doctor (or group of doctors, I forget which) in my area that helps ex gang members and ex convicts by removing their gang and prison tats for free.

I think this dude in the article did the right thing by going for a cover up/fix of the crappy tat. He wanted a tat anyway of his late bride, he just didn't do his research very well from the looks of things. He did better research the second time around, obviously. The artist who fixed it ROCKS, too! Awesome job, especially considering what he had to work with. Now THAT'S talent!

Interesting to see, once again, that the stupidest statements always seem to come from the people with minimalist profiles.

That's an impressive cover up.  I'm happy for the guy who had to walk around with that monstrosity for so long, and I'm definitely okay with the artist getting a lot of publicity for this.

Have to agree. Dude should have been proud of having the worst tattoo in the world. Now it just looks like a chick wearing blackface.

buntz: Louisiana_Sitar_Club: I have the same question but I'm disingenuously curious.

Well, I stressed the 'genuinely' part because I didn't want to come off as sounding like I was saying "Oh yeah, sure, he can do a tattoo, but can he PAINT!?!!"

Good representational artists do share a particular set of skills/talents involving visual perception, focus, and attention to detail. Those skill can be applied to different media (tattoo, painting, whatever) but the artist needs to learn the techniques specific to those media. The techniques of shading, line, etc.... are very similar in tattoo and pen & ink. Acrylic or oil painting would need a different approach. Watercolor could be more or less similar depending on how you did it. But for all of them you would need to understand how light and shadow work.

Then occasionally you get to meet an artist who just glides from one media to another with no effort at all. I have met maybe two or three of those folks out of the hundreds of artists I've known. Most of us have to work at it. I have no doubt that this artist could paint beautifully if he wanted to. Whether he can just automagically be able to paint well if all he knew how to do is tattoo is possible - but not likely.

Tattoo your entire back to look like a stained-glass window, through which your skeleton is visible.

The artwork is beautiful and it is an amazing coverup. That said, it doesn't look very much like his late wife, except for the pose. But I guess if you've had ZombieWife on your arm for years, you'd be glad that it looks human.

My husband has been having a large dark tattoo lasered off.

Every time he goes in (every 6-8 weeks) he comes home with what looks like a 2nd degree burn (it bleeds and needs to be bandaged).  It's been over a year and it is much much lighter but still very visible.  He doesn't go in as much as he used to.  Eventually the ink will be gone, but I suspect the scarring will be visible (my husband scars very easily and all of his tattoos look raised) and the scar will be a ghost of the tat (it's a tribal and it's on his back).
