Wow, that's actually amazing.

It looks better than the photograph.  Not an especially cute photo to begin with.

2013-02-22 02:00:10 AM
I've seen some great tattoos in my day.

Nothing that comes close to that. That is photo quality.

There are "artists" and then there are artists.

That is one amazing piece of artistry.  Kudos to the artist who fixed it for him.

Now it's just some boring old tattoo. It's like if somebody went and restored that hilarious Behold the Monkey portrait of Jesus.

Pull back and show me what it looks like from a few feet away.

"Burned to death in a house fire"

Wouldn't a different style of tattoo be more appropriate

Is it wierd that I want to hump that guy's arm now?

Because People in power are Stupid: "Burned to death in a house fire"

Is that why she now looks like she has soot all over her face?

2013-02-22 07:43:05 AM
It looks incredible now. I'm also sure he can now look back on the awfulness and laugh with the rest of us.

Ok, he might never be able to do that, but that's still great work. Not to mention the international publicity that parlor will get now. It's seldom that a tattoo artist gets such a positive headline.

2013-02-22 07:43:18 AM
Aside from being a moron that chose to double down on a bad idea, it looks much better.

Gonna have to make a trip to Empire Ink sometime. That's a really skilled artist and kind also, because he gifted the tattoo.

2013-02-22 07:45:48 AM
Well it looks a hell of a lot better than it did.

sure there is. Dude was killed in a car accident a few years ago.

And i wouldn't have called Mr. Cool Ice a bad tattoo. It was done very well, It was what the customer wanted, and he was happy and proud of the results

2013-02-22 07:53:35 AM
So wait... did this guy really fix this tattoo or was it Ink Army? Is he ripping off work or what?

Many an obvious joke was made at the morgue that day as they put Mr. Cool Ice into the fridge.

Oh, NM. I see the original watermark. Looks like the image linked is what was submitted to a tattoo collective website.

That IS amazing.  I know nothing about tattoo artists but how well does that talent translate to paper or canvas?

Could this artist paint something as amazing on a canvas? Because like someone said up there, it's better than the photograph!

Genuinely curious

Supposedly, it took him three hours.

I have the same question but I'm disingenuously curious.

Well, I'm not much of a tattoo person at all... but kudos on this guy... that is amazing work.

I hope they hear about and come to this thread (and ignore those that think themselves all witty and crap).

Louisiana_Sitar_Club: I have the same question but I'm disingenuously curious.

I went to art school with a lot of illustrators who also apprenticed at tattoo shops. What happened was that the tattoo practice affected their drawing more than the other way around. When they'd submit their drawings for critique in class you can see there was a more steady/delicate hand at work and a sensitivity to the medium than when they had started off that year. We weren't painters so I don't imagine it would have translated that well but the pencil/charcoal/ink drawings were spectacular.

I'm looking forward to buying it from his mortician and having it framed and mounted in my Billy-ard parlour. It shall hang prominently next to my acquired tattoo of the Marines shoving the U S Flag up Khomeini 's butt.

Well, I stressed the 'genuinely' part because I didn't want to come off as sounding like I was saying "Oh yeah, sure, he can do a tattoo, but can he PAINT!?!!"
