John Buck 41: Fark-N-Noodle: John Buck 41: Well, I told you folks that we were going car-shopping on Tuesday. Went to our bank. They wouldn't do a thing for us til we came back with a vehicle we had picked out. I told them I wasn't thrilled about spending all day kicking tires and then getting turned down for a loan. So we left and went to a local Toyota dealership. Cut to the chase---we ended up driving away with a 2013 Toyota Corolla w/0% financing. We got a modest break because I work for a Toyota supplier and also saved some $$ by choosing a 5 speed manual in lieu of an automatic transmission.

First NEW car I bought since 1988.

Hey Caturday folk! I have some kitty food questions I hope someone might have some good recommendations for.

One - I want to get a bowl for food that helps slow them down eating. One cat scarfs his food, which does result in some untimely piles on the carpet sometimes. Can anyone recommend one? I didn't see many at all when I went searching.

Two - A water bowl. I've been looking at getting one of the auto-water bowls, maybe with a waterfall, or moving water, etc. Does anyone have a brand they prefer? I was reading the reviews on Amazon, and its either they're too hard to take apart, too hard to clear, too big, broke easily, etc, etc. One didn't stand out more than the rest, so I was wondering if people used them here and could give some good feedback.

And Ivan, showing off his belly:

I do not know if there is an anti-scarf bowl out there..but a flat saucer, with the food mashed flat might help. They would have to work a bit harder for the food...i have a faucet that Eli prefers..in the mean time..use a ceramic bowl, and refill frequently..the ceramic will keep the water colder longer...I know quite a few people who keep filtered water in the fridge and fill bowl with that.

I got another visit from Lindsay yesterday.  It was my job to pick her up from the vet (and pay) after her spay surgery.  She seems to be recovering well (since she did nothing but climb on me for the hour I sat with her in the bathroom.

When she arrived, she reached through the bars of her carrier to him.  It was the most adorable thing I've ever seen.  He came up and sniffed her nose, and then hissed at her.  Then I took her up to the bathroom to wait for her human mom to come get her.

Kay was ...  displeased ... with her presence, and growled and hissed at her under the door until I came out.  She growled back.  She's a tough little squirt.  When it was time for her to go, she sneaked out the door and tried to trot up to him.  I made the mistake of trying to catch him before he could attack, and got a bit of a scratch on my hand, but Lindsay was fine.  I think she'd like to be friends with him, but he's a mean old grump.

Yep. But it is very stiff..most of the pain is when I flex upward with the toe.

RICE

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevate
It's hard to know without seeing it but if it's still swollen by Monday, I'd check with the doc.

Sounds like you broke it. I've done that many times with toes, once so badly I had to straighten the toe myself because it was sticking out at a 90 degree angle. That kinda hurt (OK, I screamed, in agony. I'll admit it.). If you go to the hoomin doc they'll maybe (if they're nice) give you something for pain. They'll probably "buddy tape" it, too. Really all they can do for broken toes. You will also be told to put ice on it to reduce swelling and elevate it.

If you have decent insurance, go to the hoomin doc so they can poke it and touch it and then apologize and give you drugs. If you don't, elevate it and take some Motrin. That's what I had to do as I didn't have insurance.

I would go to a dr. to see if it's broken. I've broken toes before and they are pretty easy to deal with. (tape two together) but a big toe harder to deal with and the bones might have to be set if they are broken. Also the circulation could be screwed up and that could cause problems.
I'm not a medical person I only know what I've been thru although I do have a degree in archaeology so if the bones are old enough I could tell you the problem.

I agree....ice it as much as you can.  If it hurts too much when you flex it, tape a small part of a popsicle stick on the bottom of the toe.  Poor Honey!  HUGS!

Kitty bowls should be shallow or flat, but I saw in a local pet store an insert you can put in to help reduce how fast a pup eats.  Could work for the kitty.  Or you could just add golf balls in the bowl - that's supposed to work to slow them down - again, for pups, YMMV.

As for water bowls, I have used both a Drinkwell (very hard to take apart and clean properly) and a Raindrop, which is what my zoo currently use.  The Drinkwell had more of a 'waterfall' effect, but all the critters seemed to like them both equally.  I will say that the Raindrop is very easy to take apart for cleaning, it is all (except the filter, motor and cord) dishwasher safe, and is much quieter!

Tape it to it's neighbor(s).  That is what the doc will do as long as it isn't dislocated.  If it is dislocated, he will put it back into alignment, then tape it to it's neighbor(s).

I try.  They're staying with their human grandma, who was laid off at the end of last year, so I'm sponsoring vet care in exchange for picking the vet and getting visits.

Lindsay's brother Diego was supposed to get neutered that day, but apparently he figured out what that meant and managed to ninja his way out of it.  Try as they might, the couldn't catch the little booger.  We're gonna try again on Monday.

And in case anybody's wondered where I've been the last couple of weekends, I present a little thing I like to call 4th place.  (*shrug* -- I've done the form better than this)

Yeah, could be broken or dislocated.  But you didn't say it's pointed off at a funny angle, so it's  probably not dislocated.  If it's still painful and swollen on Monday, I'd see a doc if for no better reason than the nice pain meds they might give you.
