I want to slip a knife into that tumblr owner's hand as they pat themselves on the back over how funny they seem to think they are.

Your "shiat" drafts shouldn't be better than the original.  See, e.g., the Fifty Shades of Grey one.

Subby, I think you have a very loose definition of "classic" if you think Harry Potter is one of them.

"It was a dark and stormy cocktail; the dark rum and ginger beer fell in torrents - except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent splash of lime..."

CygnusDarius: So, it's The Hobbit a children's classic?.

Is there even a question that it is? It's still popular, it's taught in schools, it has stood the test of time, it's to some extent respected, it shows up in various other media. The Hobbit is by almost any measure a children's classic.

pute kisses like a man: doubt it... big blockbuster books rarely last the test of time.

I could make a long, long list of books that sold big during their time and that have stood the test of time as popular and beloved works. While many of today's classics weren't big in their day, just as many were.

At this point, it's pretty clear that Harry Potter wasn't a passing fad or flash in the pan. It will unquestionably still be with us in a few decades.

Hunger Games, 50 Shades, etc.? Yes, they are of their time. These things will fade. Harry Potter isn't and won't.

The idea has potential. The execution, not so much.
