I thought the steps to winning at Monopoly were as follows:

Crush your enemies.
See them driven before you.
Hear the lamentations of their women.

This thread is now about good games.

Gloom takes less than an hour to play and gets everyone infuriated much faster and so it's a way better time investment.

Diplomacy - all the timeliness of Risk with all the civility of Monopoly. Love that game.

mitchcumstein1: impaler: but Monopoly seems to make the experience particularly crushing and more likely to end in anger than pretty much any other game I know.

Not a "Risk" player, I see.

Monopoly and Risk: two games in which the board getting flipped is a very real possibility.

My cousins ended up in a fight over Pictionary once

Anybody else here into Ticket to Ride? We picked that one up lately and we've played the hell out of it.

Just a fun game.

Agreed.

I'm getting ready to order Seasons, Mice and Mystics, Escape: The Curse of the Temple, and Sentinels of the Multiverse.

I've found Zombicide to be a lot of fun.

That is a great game. No dice. No random chance. Just a group of people back stabbing each other until one of them wins.
The only problem is it's hard to get people to play it more than once.

Hahahaha, that's awesome. It also ties in with Risk, too--in high school some friends of mine would play a 2x2 setup with four Risk boards, mating the Alaska-Kamchatka ends and letting Argentina connect to Greenland and South Africa to Russia. That game took for-EVER.

Rev.K: How to win Monopoly in 2 turns:

1. Declare yourself a corporation
2. Destroy competition with your legion of lawyers.

I prefer
1. Declare yourself a corporation
2. Take out a loan worth 2 billion dollars
3. Pay the CEO (you) 1.5 Billion.
4 Buy all the remaining property for 500 million
5. Declare bankruptcy
6. As CEO buy all the property from the bank for 100000

The trump way

mjjt: Quantumbunny: mjjt: Trivial Q - is it called "Park Place" in US or is that a typo?

Of course it's Park Place in the US... what is where you are?

This is what we see

So, just "Park Place" confused you?  oooookkkkkk

mauricecano: Our rules: 3 doubles in a row= go to jail!

I thought that one was actually a legitimate rule. But then again, I've probably never played Monopoly by the legitimate rules, and I most certainly have never read them, if such a thing actually exists.

Does that come with a case of mountain dew and a never ending pot of coffee so everyone involved can stay awake long enough to finish the game?

/also, how does it work...make a figure-8 around the board going from low->high value then high-low value properties?
//I want to play it...

You can probably snag a copy cheap on Amazon, it isn't out on any of the D2D platforms that I know of but it's 13 years old now so it's all over the place on the "open ocean", y'know. Runs fine on W7.

Here's a piece about it: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/09/16/retro-the-typing-of-the-de a d/

The phrases are endearingly silly.
