orbister: Oh for fark's sake, America. You have the largest economy in the world, you spend more on your military than the next ten biggest spenders put together ... and you're happy to let children from poor families die unless the shoeshine guy outside the hospital donates his tips to save them?Do you have any idea how bizarre this sounds to every. other. farking. industrialised. country. in. the. entire. farking. world?
spentmiles: Typical mortality rates for children that take advantage of the Free Care Fund (FCF) are upwards of 65%. That means the majority of the children who received his money for treatment didn't survive more than a year after admittance. From my perspective, that's a lousy investment. He would've been better off socking the money into an aggressive growth fund at first and then slowly transitioning it to safer investments as time passed. That $200K could have been $2 million, easy.It just backs up my argument - don't tip service industry people. They do not know what to do with the money and will most likely sink it in poor investments such as dying kids. If you really want to help, then do not tip them! Take that money over the years and give it to a fund manager like me. Then, when you're fat, rich, and incredibly happy, you can take the original nest egg and do what you like with it - while keeping the profits for yourself. If I was one of those dead kids, I'd say, "Thanks a lot shoe shine man. Thanks a lot for nothing. Now go get a clean rag and wipe this dirt off my face. I'm farking starving!"
