The changes required to slow climate change are never going to happen. So you go on and dream about reducing carbon emissions by 80%. I'll be busy figuring out how to live in a world with violent weather and rising sea levels.

Well economic models tell us that it is cheaper to allow climate change to happen and deal with the effects as they occur then attempt to stop climate change. Of course that assumes we plan to deal with the effects in a reasonable coordinate way that helps the most people get out of the way or recover from those effects, but that seems highly unlikely given the current climate of "fark YOU I GOT MINE".

We require air, water, food and shelter. These things are real and we should simply do whatever it takes to protect them. Money is a symbolic representation of these things and is not real.

A $20 bill will buy you a plate of food, you can't eat a $20 dollar bill....think about that when you apply economics to nature. Economics are a f*cking fairy tale; nature is real.

That is my problem with modern environmentalism and the polar opposite anti-science bullsh*t is that both sides condone the waste and over-consumption that are apparently causing all our woes.

I can solve all the problems with two single words, "Use less."

Please feel free to prove that conservation is a bad idea.

Honest question: Would your life unravel and be absolutely unlivable if you drove 20% less, bought 20% less sh*t from China, walked  20% more, ate 20% less fast food, grew a garden, etc....

I find it sad that people actually think "global warming" means "hot weather all the time".

But then, I also find it sad that people watch Honey Boo-Boo, but there's not much we can do about the fact that everyone seems to be getting dumber by the minute, and nobody is doing much to stop it.

However, since this storm is landing smack-dab in the middle of Kansas, I say "Suck it, Bible-thumpers. Enjoy the snow."

To everyone else in the storm's path: Stay safe. Stay indoors.

/It's kind of hilarious that up here in the north we've had very little snow.

We got ten inches yesterday/last night (including Thundersnow!) and I'm only at work today because our City Manager is from Bumfark, Iowa and gets a hard-on every time there's snow and needs to whip it out and show what a man he is so, despite every other major public sector business being shut down, we are open for business.  80 percent of the staff called in today and the only reason I'm here is because I'm having to unexpectedly take tomorrow and Monday off.  That dude's going to have blood on his hands by the time the day's out and he couldn't care less.

Yeah. I'm in the L.P., on the mid-eastern side of the state, and we've got nothing but cold. No snow to speak of.

I remember winters like that, though. When I was a kid, it used to be 12" high in November sometimes. We had blizzards and ice storms. People from down south would look at us funny and say "what's an 'ice storm'?" and we'd have to explain it.

Good riddance to that weather.

2013-02-21 02:34:14 PM
I've been blanketed in 12 inches of snow over the last 24 hrs. Just about everyone is grinning. Last night the weather people could hardly contain their glee (they finally predicted precipitation and it turned out right!..though they were a little on the low side). I think the only people who are unhappy are the stores who aren't getting any customer and the businesses who pay their employees not to be at work.

Sure all this snow is probably only equal to one inch of rain or less, but hey, any potential water is great at this time.

/I used to hate snow, but we rarely get it anymore

The problem is that your idea of using less isn't about conservation of resources, it's about being a f*cking hippie.  Drive less, walk more?  Walk where?  It'd take you an hour to walk to a grocery store where I live, and an hour to walk back.  Have fun when the windchill is 40 below.  Growing a garden?  When, in all my spare time to grow sh*t during the 6 months of the year when it's not dumping snow on me?  Should we find better ways of doing things?  Yes.  Is conservation a bad idea?  No.  Is your idea of conservation a bad idea?  It's pretty damn retarded, I'll give you that much.
