Yeah, but everyone has already SEEN the technoviking.  If anything, this should promote him into getting a tv show or movie.  Or a comic book.

"The Adventures of Techno Viking."   He'd had a light saber battle axe and go around fighting aliens.

I think the issue is less his degree of fame, and more the fact that this dude Fritsch and others profited off of his image, and he never saw a dime from it.  Either that or the notoriety is causing him personal problems, like it did for Star Wars Kid.

While I can sort of see that, he was out in public, doing things that would draw attention to himself.

And it's an overstatement to say, "random blogger who built himself a speaking gig"...  He's a guy who studies memes, and happened to create one himself.  It wasn't his intent to profit (which is very big in courts. Intent, that is.).

I agree, fame can be a pain.  I am ~very~ (probably ~extremely~ is better there) minorly internet famous.  I qualify that statement with, I appear by my real name on TVTropes, in a popular fiction series, and in writing credits for a handful of things (including something that was translated to Portuguese, and I wasn't aware of it until 2 years after the fact).  The middle one has caused some booksellers, when I hand over a payment card, to question whether or not I'm really me, or using an "obviously" fake name.  It's also caused a few coworkers, who have read that series, to occasionally mock me.

I suppose, in my case, I knew what I was getting into when I did the things that caused this.  And one could argue that TV didn't.

But...  anyone who does something "interesting" could be in the same position.  You don't automatically own all rights to everything you do, especially in a public forum.

I figure this is the first guy in a long line of defendants in civil suits.

If the Viking hires a real good Caveman Lawyer, he can prove he owns his image.

Then he and his lawyer can sue everyone who sold anything with his likeness on it. I'm not saying they'd win in court but out of court settlement is always a possibility when Vikings are in session.

Or messing around with Tats.  Probably that.

And Francis, there's a concept I'd like to introduce you to...  It's called "moving".

I'll use small words, but someone could live in one place, and then decide they want to live in another, all the way across a country.

With that concept, they might have met people on one side of the country, who added them to a book, and then done that whole "moving across a country" thing, and now live somewhere else.

WeenerGord: mithras_angel: There's a difference between "wrote" (that's the author in your pic), and "appeared in", which is what I did.

If I got to read 5 words of that shiat series to find out who you are....I ain't gonna find out. Or care. That is a really stupid, badly written, unbelievable shiat series.

It's better than Twilight...

Ok, I admit, that's not saying much...

Sean Fausz?

Oh, I know who he is. He's chris-chan.

Do we know he's male? He could be Benchstrainer Guntwoman

I'm male.  Not God, chris-chan, or Mustard Guy.  (I looked him up.  Why did I look him up?)

You're honestly going too well known.  I wasn't exagerating when I said "extremely minorly internet famous".

You were the model for the front page of goatse?

Nope.

And I'm slightly scared to look that up on google.  It just doesn't sound good.

The "IT SPINS!" guy, right?

Lol @internet celeb that APPEARED in Echoes of Honor.

Carry on Mithras.

Also not true, even Twilight is better than that empty unbelievable crap. Honor never did anything but swagger around and take credit for everything she never earned. It's like the author has a femboss fetish, but he does not really believe a woman can actually accomplish anything, just fill out a costume and pose and take prizes for it. So that's all he can describe a female character doing.

Is that what David Weber thinks?

I've no real idea what he thinks, though I don't agree with your characterization of HH.

The appearance in the book was an item in a charity auction, at a little convention that was apparently 5 miles from his house.  He put an "appearance and glorious death" up for auction.

I got it because mom reads the series fanatically, and was just waiting for the phone call of "Why are you in this book?  How are you in this book?"

Yeah if he didn't want some random guy with a camera profiting off of him he shouldn't have danced all slutty like that.

The way I see it is like this. The reason Techno Viking made such an impact is because he's seen as a kind of hero. He's wandering the streets enforcing a code of ethics all while looking farking amazing. It seems consistent that he would insist that the blogger act ethically too.

Given that the publication date was 15 years ago...  yeah, got that call, about a week after the book hit the shelves.

Though, she wasn't particularly happy that I died in the book.

Dear TechnoViking,

You're awesome, but the lawsuit is stupid.  Embrace your fame and make a few bucks from it by selling t-shirts, dolls and stuff.

J. Frank Parnell: Vikings remain bad at business

Vikings were actually pretty good at business, but that's another topic...
This Viking wants to carry on the tradition of looting his neighbors.

He'd go on my desk, right next to Jay and Silent Bob, positioned so that Silent Bob's sideways glance is looking at TV.

I think he's wasted as all get-out in the video and that, coupled with the fact that he is Très, très gai has left him with no good sense and a perfectly good job at Jorvik's Best Lock, Key and Whale Bone in serious jeopardy.

Yngvild Jorvik is not a man with which to be monkeyed.  No he is not.  Just ask Ingrid.

iron_city_ap: Graffito: I had mostly forgotten about technoviking.  Surely, by now, he's changed his look.  Is this video ruining his career as a...a...a...?  I can't think of what career this would ruin.

From what I've read, this video has caused him to be passed over for the positions of smooth jazz viking, and love jamz viking.

Best comment ever.

How do you explain Uwe Boll's continued freedom then?
