So, it's a higher-tech version of having sex with an imaginary woman.

Hey. If I could have sex with an imaginary woman that was just as good as the "real" thing and she could be turned off when I was done, what would be the point of ever having sex with anybody else?

True, but if you met a real woman and tried to have sex with her, you might be spending more time trying to find an ON/OFF button that isn't there.  That would be a problem.

I dunno. I think I'm pretty good at turning real women off.

And you know what? Screw just virtual sex, I want to virtualize ALL of my interactions with the vast majority of other people. And it's happening, too. I order food online for delivery, I check out on self-service kiosks at the grocery store, I have inane political arguments via the internet on Fark....

Livin' the dream, buddy. Livin' the dream...

Most guys won't even use a fleshlight, or similar products (but cranking one out by hand is still great and to be celebrated, just don't dare use toys, I guess?), how the hell are we going to achieve holodeck sex?

They should be fine so long as nobody messes with the computer controls that keep the hologram programs non-lethal.  After all, if you're into bondage and the hologram forget the safe word...

Honestly? Because a visual image (or hologram if we're talking pure holodeck) isn't a plastic object they have to clean their spooge out of afterwards. That's the ick factor for most males. And the disposable ones aren't popular in the US yet, they're primarily in Japan...and I'm not kidding, they run a bit small for most Americans. I wish I were making that up.

Hey, the profession of Holodeck jizzmopper will create all sorts of new job openings and help stimulate the economy.

Remember, in Roddenberry's utopia, everyone is able to do whatever fulfills and pleases them.

So apparently, there are people out there who enjoy cleaning steaming loads of jizm that were carelessly flung about the holodeck off the walls.

Coming up with the perfect solution for cleaning the crusted semen from the isolinear chips is a task that some people were just born for.

It's my...shhh...regular fantasy. I make lists of what I'd do and who I'd do it with (mostly dead celebrities and scientists,) where we'd be, etc....

What an interesting time to be alive. The geek tab is full of advances in medical technology, robotics, space exploration, and virtual reality. Ironically, the politics tab is filled with leaders who are either oblivious to said advances, or actively crusading against them because they "go against the bible".

If the technology ever exists to replicate a flesh and blood facsimile of a human then who we're having sex with will probably be the least of our worries.

That being said, I'm fairly certain 70-80% of men would opt for the holodeck version. Sorry ladies, but you're simply not worth the effort. Given the option of having your sexual and companionship needs fulfilled without all the other bullshiat that goes along with that, most men would choose this option.

I don't care how much your husband says he loves you and can't live without you, he's only saying that because it's what you want to hear.

Is there anything in Star Trek canon suggesting there would need to be a holodeck jizzmopper? Everyone always says that, but why couldn't the transporter and/or replicator system identify any stray organic material left over after a person is done and... do whatever it is they do with excrement and food waste?  Reprocess it into its basic molecules or something.

2013-02-22 07:45:07 AM
I'd never get anything done again.

/Pot would take a back-seat to this on lack of productivity in the world...

I'll hand back my share of the "apology." I want a lot of sex with fictional men and dead movie stars and a couple of swoon-worthy 19th century scientists. Maybe some great conversation and a couple of cocktails first and then the sex, but after that, the program ends and I go back to my records, cooking, painting and gardening.

Thanks, anyway.

I'm sure there are plenty of women who feel the same way. I've always said humans weren't meant to be in long term relationships, they simply don't work for most people. After 2 marriages and a few long term relationships I decided 5 years ago to stay single and aside from sex and the occasional stimulating conversation I've never been happier.

I was able to view a nuclear blast from the inside in one of the CAVEs at Los Alamos Nat Labs. Pretty cool stuff. They do everything from creating virtual "crayon worlds" that you can interact with to testing the molecular density and springy-ness of foam for the space station to create longer lasting beds for the crew up there. (bed bugs man, space bed bugs... In space, no one can hear you itch)
