He should just take the credit in the game and use it to get a second project started.  He realistically was never going to develop that and this will at least give him some street cred.  Also don't post Reddit links on here

If i had a dime for every time someone told me a whopper about how such-and-such big company stole their massive money making idea, I'd have more than enough money to finance the theft of someone's money making idea.

Some dude on Reddit posting about a story told to him by a stranger.

Isn't this taking the whole 'It's not News..." thing a bit far.

When I was a kid my friend and I wrote and entire Mega Man game and drew up 9 robot baddies and everything. We sent our "presentation" to Capcom and they mailed us back all kinds of Mega Man schwag  thanking us for our efforts.

I don't know where I'm going with this, but maybe Bungie can kick this guy some stickers.

I Fark because I don't Reddit.  Voting up or down articles sounds an awful lot like giving some company more money without getting anything in return.

I remember way back when there used to be a Letters to the Webmaster on Bungie's site where he made fun of people who would give them ideas for games. I think it was back during the Myth days. However it seems to gone from their site now :(

Legit.

I had a friend in the second grade who had a machine you fed pictures into and it would spit out video games.  He got it from his dad who was an astronaut and owned Mario.  This guy's story is about as believable as his.

A company like Bungie does not take external pitches, why would they? Their ideas come from within. This story would be more believable if the guy was laid off from Bungie.

You know, I read the synopsis of Destiny and it sounded pretty much identical to some other franchise Bungie made...  I think it was called "Hal Zero," or maybe "Hey Lou", I dunno...

At any rate I didn't think it was terribly new or interesting.

It seems a lot more ambitious. I think really the only aspects that are the same are guns in space. It's not just a shooter though, at least from what I could tell from the preview movie.

I totally invented this thing called porn.  People have sex and get paid.  Who wouldn't want to watch that.  It will be HUGE! I just needed some capital and hot willing participants to join me at my sex tarp so I could film it but the Internet totally ripped me off.

2013-02-21 08:22:35 AM
Ha.

Destiny is about as generic an idea as you can get, it's a Sci-Fi MMOFPS.  No one cares that you had that idea because every other game designer has had that idea as well.

If you think you have an idea for a game, great, someone else does to.  Making a game is the hard part.

2013-02-21 08:22:38 AM
Trolling is an art and this is the Mona Lisa.

2013-02-21 08:26:17 AM
Oh, and for the record, game studios do NOT take outside pitches from random individuals (unless maybe you are Sid Meier or something).  Every studio is full of people with 2423 ideas each with much more knowledge about how to implement them.

A publisher might solicit a pitch from a developer for a game they want to publish, but that is about it.  That process is documented in something called an "RfP", or a "Request for Pitch."

Why bother to come in here then? Did you just want to show everyone how cool and sophisticated you are by pointing out your discerning tastes in which video games you grace with your attention?

Also they don't really seem to all that alike other than genre of 'sci-fi shooter'. It's like claiming that Katamari Damacy and Jet Set Radio are alike because they both feature colorful cell shaded graphics.

2013-02-21 08:34:11 AM
So random guys shows up a the posters new found business venture to get investors in his desire to develop video games.  During the course of that conversation his main pitch is that he had the idea for a game developed by a major studio and the only credit he was going to get is an Easter Egg (which I'm guessing he turned down).   Then business owner turns to Reddit to verify the claim?

I predict a long and profitable reign for that gaming center in San Antonio!

2013-02-21 08:37:10 AM
Since the game will flop he may not want to take credit for it anyway.

2013-02-21 08:38:12 AM
the world has no shortage of ideas.

it does however have a gross shortage of people with the skill and perseverence to see them through

Kind of have to respect how Meta this trolling is.

Some guy with a sob story trolling Reddit so they'll troll Bungie, and in turn an admin posting a reddit troll link to troll Farkers all the while Farkers are trying to troll any Reddit Bile that may show up, meanwhile drew waits in anticipation to hear biatching about how Fark is linking to some crappy site instead of "Real" news when the commentator is on Fark which isn't about news.

whoa.....

Free Radical: Since the game will flop he may not want to take credit for it anyway.

I don't know, I think the market is ripe for a large scale PvE MMOFPS.  The problem is how shockingly expensive a PvE MMO is to make.  Global Agenda came as close as anyone else I've seen, I PvEed WAY more in that game than the minuscule amount of content warranted because the core game-play was so solid and fun.  Hi-Rez only spent about $8 million USD on it as well.
