What was surreal was the fact that no one stopped him as he walked out of the museum. No one pursued him as he left the area.

Did no one think it strange at the time?

It would have been more surreal if it had been stolen by a giant daffodil-headed bat-chimp riding a flaming unicycle who then took the painting and shoved it inside a 10 foot tall feathered broccoli stalk with 500 catlike eyes instead of a man with a shopping bag.

At least the police did not dilly-dally in recovering the Dali.

As long as he didn't telephone the yellow for a biscuit, we'll be owning Churchill's old muffin.

They did, but couldn't do anything as it felt like time was transfixed... And they'll live with that the rest of their lives, due to the persistence of memory...

And once the purloined painting was retrieved, they say

Hello Dali
This is Louis. Dali

the surreal part is that the wealthy bastard who commissioned the theft (yes I am assuming, as many rare valuable art thefts are done for wealthy bastards) will never be named or have to face a court for their actions.

wealthy people. is there anything they can't do?

SquiggsIN: If you're ever in St Petersburg, FL go check out the Dali museum they have there.  Very, very cool place and it's a lot closer than Europe. (maybe)

And if you see it from the proper distance, it looks just like the Lincoln Memorial.

Jesus F. Christ.

There was a movie where a guy wanted to steal a painting, and he had a bunch of people dress up like Son of Man to confuse security

Believe it or not, subby lifted that quote directly from the article. I wonder if the lawyer who was quoted as saying that was intentionally making a joke.

The problem was that they couldn't even tell what time the theft occurred because it seemed like all the clocks had melted.

The quote was FTFA, so don't give subby too much algae. At least not without spreading it on a wax echidna.

Modern art. Meh.

I told my daughter before we visited the New York Museum of Modern Art that these kinds of museums always have at least one crushed automobile as an art piece. Sure enough, it only took her ten minutes to find it. I think it was in the room next to the unicycle bolted upside down onto the wooden stool.
