To your first point, I agree. I clicked and read.

To the second, my empathy would be the same. I have mental illness and haven't done anything like that before, but I've had panic attacks in public in the days before people videotaped strangers and put it on the Internet. So my empathy is really born out of selfishness. I'd like to think that if I ever freaked out someone would help me rather than further hurt me by causing me to have the trauma of becoming infamous over such a low moment in one's life. I mean think of the issues she needed to work on before this came out. This just adds another layer. It truly doesn't have to do with gender/age in this case.
