Good to see we all still have our wits about us enough to recognize the true victim of this crime.

All I know is that my list of people to be afraid of just got longer:

- Blacks
- Mexicans who aren't at least two stories away
- Young white males with constant expressions of surprise
- Anyone with a neck tattoo
- And now, cripples

It's getting so you can't go out in public anymore.  And thanks to the American's with Disabilities Act, these sons of biatches can get you anywhere.  I think we need stricter gun laws, longer prison sentences for juvenile offenders, and at least one stair leading to every entrance.  We need protection!

That poor door never had a chance. :-(

One does not simply walk fire into poor door.

That said, he's rich and famous. He'll walk free. Well, bounce free.

Even famous people get convicted, the evidence just needs to be overwhelming, since they can afford way more competent attorneys.  Anyway, I think he ends up with 2 years or so for negligent homicide, short enough time that he can train for and try to make the 2016 Olympics.

The First Four Katy Perry Albums:  I do think a Murder-1 charge is probably prosecutorial overreach that could end up with this charming fellow getting off scott-free.

Hmmm... yes... it all makes perfect sense.

A buglar breaks into a famous rich person's mansion.  When they realize that they've been discovered, their first instinct is not to flee from an almost certainly armed (in South Africa) homeowner, but rather, to lock themselves in a bathroom.

Oh, and a homeowner who needs to put his legs on first before he chases you down.

Yes, 'seems legit'...

Poor little tink-tink..

2013-02-20 01:17:46 PM
Oh, so he heard a noise in the dark, didn't check on his GF who would have been sleeping next to him, then fired blindly into the bathroom through a closed door without knowing who was in there.

He's a murderer and a farking moron.

How do you defend yourself against someone shooting at you though a bathroom door?

I'm guessing the implication is that had they had scuffled before she went into the bathroom, she would have marks from that.

It seems a bit shaky at best, but hey, that's why the defense is there - you work with what you have.  This coupled with the prosecution  mistakenly claiming they they found testosterone all adds doubt into the jury's minds, so you throw it in.

cretinbob: Oh this is going to be fun.

Anyway, this is why people should be charged with a crime when they shoot someone. An investigation and trial can prove innocence as well as guilt.

You do realize that even in states where castle doctrines exist, unless it's clear cut self defense, you will be charged and tried, right?  That you don't get blanket immunity for shooting people just by yelling "ZOMG HE WAS COMING RIGHT FOR ME"?

I realize that elite athletes more than likely possess a level of arrogance and/or narcissism that I probably would never be able to fully comprehend, but my main curiosity with this horrific crime is how exactly did he think he was going to get away with it?

Reasons why:

1) The media's business model is delivering eyeballs to the advertisers.

2) Thus, a story with beautiful people will lead. People like looking at beautiful people.

3) Also, if it bleeds, it leads. People are interested in why people are bleeding.

4) This story has it all: Beautiful people bleeding. Therefore, it's leading.

James F. Campbell: cretinbob: Anyway, this is why people should be charged with a crime when they shoot someone. An investigation and trial can prove innocence as well as guilt.

Er, no. The police aren't trying to do you a favor. Their job is to gather evidence to convict you. Period. Don't talk to the police, as this extremely informational video warns.

The jury trial I was just on really opened my eyes to the ineptitude of police and prosecutors. Basically if the criminals don't confess repeatedly there's a very very small chance on conviction.

Does the bathroom have a window?  If so, perhaps someone was entering through the window.

Not saying I buy his story.

Also some meds can make you think all kinds of things.   I was taking a drug and needed Tylenol after an operation.. and found out that 1 in 6 people have nasty dreams.  Some sick dreams where you are killing people.  Thankfully, mine were just there is a rat crawling up the curtain or a giant spider crawling on the fan over the bed.
I decided to deal with the pain.

What happened to the whole bloody cricket bat story?  I doubt he's going to want to go to trial though.  Probably angling for the best plea deal he can get.  Who is going to believe the unknown intruder in the bathroom getting shot through the door story? I'm thinking she probably told him she was dumping him and going on to the next sucker Kardashian style and he just didn't take it too well.

Bit'O'Gristle: His whole story sounds fishy to me. She locked herself in the bathroom, and he fired multiple shots at her. According to witnesses, (shaky) they heard a woman screaming, and more shots. Sounds like he was in a roid rage and offed her. But i don't know all the facts, and im guessing.

Roid Rage is more of a result of the 80's drug war than a real thing. It happens very rarely with people who abuse steroids, but it isn't usually aggression, it's biatchiness due to the body's overproduction of estrogen to compensate for the synthetic testosterone.

This is freaking too weird of a story without roids anyway.

Because you'll never hear about the normal slob who uses a gun to kill someone through a door in what they claim was a self defense situation. Partly because it's a nobody, partly because there's a "don't talk about gun mishaps" in American media.

I dunno. I follow both the Olympics and college football. I've known who Pistorius was since 2008 or so, and Manti Te'o I hadn't heard about till this season. Pistorius is kind of a big deal and inspirational story to many people.

He's been in the news for a long time.   There was a long-term debate about whether his prothetics gave him an unfair advantage and whether he should be allowed into the Olympics rather than the Paralympics.  That's an issue that'd be pertinent to American paralympians, as well.

Besides it's healthy for us Americans to look outside the bubble once in a while and see what's going on in the rest of the world.

What shape are bullet casings again? Round, you say? Oh, right, those could never roll under a door, especially if you are standing next to the door to fire into the room. *eyeroll*

And bathrooms can have windows.

As for .25 miles away witness, how densely is the area populated?

This is sad story, overall- :( She was looking forward to surprising him, and she probably locked the door after the first shot was fired and missed.

He told her to call the police because there was a break in. She thought the break in was outside the bathroom, so locked the door. He thought the break in was through the bathroom window because it was the only window without bars.

It must be terrifying to live in SA if people go off the rails so easily. I'd move.

And yes, my first thought, when reading that a guy shot his girlfriend through a locked bathroom door (with her inside and him outside) is that he must be innocent of any wrongdoing.

How narrow-minded of us to come to the most logical conclusion.

I'm gonna have to remember this one if I ever want to murder a loved one. Wait for him/her to go to the crapper, shoot through the door and then tell the cops I heard a noise and was frightened there might be a dangerous criminal in the bathroom. Makes perfect farking sense.

2013-02-20 02:06:49 PM
There were no signs of assault because she locked herself in the bathroom during a verbal fight he was yelling at her through the door hence people far away hearing it(600 meters does seem like quite along ways though). He bangs on the door to try to open it this could be posibly be mistaken for gunshots. She screams at him and he gets pissed so BANG.
