Obama loves breathing. He wants everyone to share the same air and all of us to breath all at the same time.
Republicans rise up!

It's not like the GOP had a choice. The imaginary Romney is the only one there is.

The administration thought up new and creative ways to get illegals out of the country, and having fresh ideas is cheating to Republicans.

So basically obamas new policy is just like it is now for foreign workers on work visa but they can cross whenever? I don't understand what that article said.

It must be exhausting constantly inventing new measuring methods.  Every week there are a few new ones extolling the wonderful job our president is doing. Numbers are facts!

It is their kryptonite.

Yeah, probably better off just letting us know when the GOP isn't outraged about something...

Just listening to these idiots spewing hyperbole, outright lies, and talking points is tiring.

farking tryhards making us look bad.

The GOP will only admit that Obama has deported anyone if he deports himself from the White House.

2013-02-20 10:57:33 AM
So, wait, I didn't realize that the president himself, personally, deported illegals. How does he find time to do his other duties if he's busy out there combing the streets for illegals to deport?

Good point but there is another way of looking at this.  They need a candidate that looks less like a complete idiot than the average GOP politician today.  If they all stop talking today, you will be able to compare/contrast this slightly better candidate with the regular field of mental insanity and ignorance.

Dems outraged at GOP immigration policies, despite the fact that deportations went *up* when a Democrat took office.

Both sides are bad on immigration, so vote Democrat, because while the GOP talks tough, the Dems actually deport people? Is that the current democratic position?

Umm no. Democrats were not pleased with the Bush Administration's policy of large public raids of companies to deport workers while letting the companies get off scott free. The Obama administration's policy is turning a blind eye to hard working illegal immigrants and those brought here as children while ratcheting up deportations of those who commit criminal offenses.

They are two completely different policies.

So, when do we step up punishing the businessmen that knowingly hire undocumented workers?

Yes, I know, America's economy would collapse without illegal immigrants doing the work our citizens don't want to do.

//Of course, the sudden loss of 8 million workers would do that to any economy.

What exactly would that supposed economic collapse entail? We could say for certain that the unemployment rate would be nonexistent. Wages would rise. The wealth gap between rich and poor would shrink. I think in the old days they'd try to scare you about a shrinking economy by saying the government would have less money for the military, but that doesn't seem to be an issue today. The government wouldn't need as much revenue if you deported the illegal poverty cases and the remaining citizen poverty cases would see the value of their labor rise and their situation would improve and they'd be in less need of government assistance.

By the way, Mexico's economy hasn't suffered by sending all those Mexicans over here. Their economy has boomed after doing that.

I don't know if big business in Mexico was opposed to sending millions of their poorest people to the US but they are doing pretty good after doing so, so I doubt they're complaining too much.

While the number of immigrants that are reported as being deported during this administration is TECHNICALLY higher, there's a significant detail that's being left out.

DHS/ICE has been counting people who have been caught at the border and turned back as "deportations", including people who have been turned back multiple times.  IIRC, this was not done previously.  So the number of deportations seems to be inflated somewhat.  Here's a LINK to relevant article.

I work with Immigration (I know, I know, "I'm getting a kick", etc), so I admittedly should have more details and will provide them if I have the time later, but really it comes down to the following few questions (if anyone can field these before I have the chance to get back, feel free):

- When did this policy of counting people who have been turned away at the border begin?
- How do we know that DHS/ICE are counting the same people multiple times?  Do they keep track?
- What would the numbers be if we didn't include these individuals (for both this and last administration)?

To add to that, the computer systems for DHS/ICE have been updated, making them much more efficient at identifying undocumented immigrants and facilitating removals, especially these last few years.  This administration certainly has a more robust immigration system to work with, although they're still overwhelmed.  Final court hearings are being scheduled two and three years down the road.  That's just nuts.

This seems like an awfully strange point to be arguing. If the number of deportations is less, it is only because more people were prevented from entering the country illegally which is also a good thing.

Yay pedantry!

Yay pedantry!

It's not strange at all, and I'm not being pedantic.  I'm as liberal as it gets, but I'm not going to play the word games that so many on the right rely on.

When people talk about "deportations", it's nearly always in the context of removing immigrants who are already in the country.  Stopping someone at the border and sending them back is a separate element of our immigration system.  Incorporating this into the "Obama has deported more people than Bush" argument looks good on it's face, but if someone chooses to look at it closer and sees that they redefined who can be categorized as "deported", it hurts your credibility.

That's why I listed those questions previously.  If we get those answers, and it still looks like Obama has higher numbers, then the point stands, and you make a better case.  If the new numbers are lower than the last administration (using the same criteria), then we shouldn't be making that claim.

Just because the GOP/conservatives need to play word games to make their point doesn't give me an excuse to behave in the same manner.

MisterTweak: Sofa King Smart: not to worry... Senator 'hulk smash' McCain has this under control...

Was that him getting his butt reamed for being too RINO-ish by some genius? I heard a clip but wasn't near the TV to see it. I just wanted to cue up Fine Young Cannibals...

yes... I think the same 'town hall' event where he eventually called a constituent a 'jerk'.

/look... it's feeding on itself!

Noam Chimpsky: Lord_Baull: Noam Chimpsky: Obama hasn't deported any percent of them because their numbers have increased.

You know how I can tell you don't understand math?

All US presidents have presided over increased US exports so there is no trade imbalance, right?

There's still a trade imbalance, so there have been no increases in US exports, right?

Dubya's_Coke_Dealer: coeyagi: Noam Chimpsky: Highest deportation rate in history my ass.  Eisenhower deported all of them with Operation Wetback. Obama hasn't deported any percent of them because their numbers have increased.  He's trying to minoritize whitey.

0/10.  More falsehoods please. MOAR.

You do realize Chimpsky is a lib satirist, right?

Just not a very good one.

Just raid the companies that employ illegal immigrants, arrest a large amount of managers and owners (set an example) who hire illegal immigrants, and enforce minimum wage laws, you'll see the unemployment rolls fall in no time when jobs are opened up because big businessmen can't hire illegals anymore under threat of prison and fines.

Dubya was the highest taxer. Even took in more tax revenue than Obama, if I'm not mistaken.
