"I mean, for goodness sakes, it was his proposal. He proposed the sequester, it was his idea. He signed it into law, now he's going to tell us that, 'Oh, it's all our fault?'" Paul said. "I voted against the sequester because I didn't think it was enough."

Translated: "The sequester is sorta bad and I'm going to blame the president even though I wanted even more cuts. Derp!"

How do these clowns have any credibility with anyone?

Did they forget to include a "don't" in that quote again so that everyone can be misinformed?

Between the incorrect grammar and how close that was to being a Palin-level word salad, I'm going to guess that he overheard some psychiatrist commenting on the GOP's Histrionic Personality Disorder, Googled the term and decided that projecting it onto Obama would make him sound smarter than he really is. Yeah, it didn't work.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong: the sequester came out of the debt ceiling 'negotiation' in which the Speaker of the House got 90 pct of what he wanted.

So it's Obama's fault for caving in to Boehner?

I think that if the sequester does happen, a whole lot of tea party types are going to be surprised to discover just how much they rely on government programs and services.

2013-02-20 09:10:52 AM
Or the President could be reminding the Tea Tards that the money provides goods and services that no one wants to see go away so that they pull their head out of their asses for once to see that taxes aren't the devil.

Current CBO estimates on the sequester for 2013:

Worst Case $93 billion / $3.6 trillion = 2%
  Best Case $48 billion / $3.6 trillion = 1.3%

Everybody panic?

Especially not a criticism that should be coming from the guy who represents the movement of sore loser senior citizens who brandish weapons, dress like they're war re-enactors, and unreasonable scream shiat like, "AH JIST HATE THAT NI...WAIL, THAT IS, AH JIST WANT MAH KUNTREE BAK!!!!"

There is "should" be deficit reduction if the spending cuts really do hit but there will be jobs lost because every dollar spent goes somewhere and ties directly to employment (not just govt jobs, there are lots of private sector jobs that are paid for with tax dollars)

You're thinking of hysterics, which comes from the Greek "hystera," meaning "womb." Histrionics comes from the Latin word "histrio," for "actor." Histrionics concerns dramatic, theatrical displays.

I used "histrionics" in my M.A. thesis (correctly) and my advisor complained about using the word. Freakin' dumbass. There's a reason I never gave that place any money once I graduated.

Rand clearly has no intention of signing any bill to address this issue. Nothing anyone presents will make him happy. Worst case, this sequester happens, it hurts, and people will start to freak out a little about it. They'll remember him calling this a "pittance" and acting as though we're getting worked up over nothing.

On another note, the pentagon informed congress that they would be laying off civilian employees if this happens. To be polite, they'll give each employee at least 30 days notice before it happens. On the other hand, when the military nearly lost it's pay during the 2011 budget crisis, they did not say shiat to us. Not a damn word until the day before our LES's popped up and we all woke up to see that we would only be getting half a paycheck. How nice, for those civilians.

I am beyond pissed.

Oh, it's worse than that. I adore Rand Paul. But he's being a major douche. These budget cuts are not a pittance, as he's called it, to the government employees that will lose 20% of their pay or to the military that are already having to deal with this shiat.

The rest of the Republican party can suck my figurative dick, though.

well that's a gross misrepresentation of the civilian employees. I and all of the people I work with in the DoD have voted democrat in the last 2 major elections. You know why? cause they know that the Republicans want nothing to do with them and will just shovel crap their way.

that and democrats aren't taking the economy hostage

Sequester was suggested by jack lew in order to avoid having another debt ceiling fight during an election year. It came from the white house. If you want to be ignorant that is fine. But this was well documented in Price of Politics by Woodward.

Citrate1007: Or the President could be reminding the Tea Tards that the money provides goods and services that no one wants to see go away so that they pull their head out of their asses for once to see that taxes aren't the devil.

The president is asking for continued goods and services at increasing rates while not increasing general taxes. Either keep current levels of entitlements and increase taxes on everyone or lower entitlements while only taxing the rich. You cant keep up the grab bag of goodies on the backs of only the rich. The numbers dont work. The deficit is higher than 100% of the top 5% s income.

No one disagrees that there are processes in government that could be streamlined to save lots of money. Streamlining the contracting process to change the way the government does business with industry, is just one.

However, sequester is an across-the-board cut to everything that DOES NOT REDUCE "WASTE."  It merely reduces the ability of the government to properly function.  There is no practical reason for sequester cuts, and the sad thing is everyone knows it.

Smart (as in high IQ) people believe and do incredibly stupid things sometimes. Actually, quite often. Smart is not a predictor of right, and those who are wrong are not always dumb.

/Unless you go for the Forrest Gump, "stupid is as stupid does," approach.
