Subby, you're a magnificent bastard.

2013-02-20 08:22:39 AM
One might almost think that the legislature had some part in this. Separation of powers, how does that work?

2013-02-20 08:47:50 AM
Oh so now we are suppose to care about the constitution, that's just what Obama wants you to believe so he can use our constitution as it reads so he can become a socialist dictator.

Study it out

FTFA: "By contrast, House Republicans have twice passed plans to replace the sequester with common-sense cuts and reforms that protect national security," Boehner's piece said.

I'm impressed. You've managed to get together and pass two pieces of legislation that the more reasonable of the two parties won't even touch. A-farking-mazing, Mr. Speaker.

Boehner may epitomize everything that's wrong with politics today, but damn that tan is nice.

hubiestubert: One might almost think that the legislature had some part in this. Separation of powers, how does that work?

The powers to accomplish good things are separated into the hands of the Republicans, the powers to accomplish all the evil in the world ever are separated into the hands of the Democrats. Simple.

2013-02-20 08:49:42 AM
Yuuuuuup.

Even the idiots aren't going to buy that one, Boehner.  Not after your party's response to the state of the union basically wasted several times longer than the actual speech shouting in our ear about how the executive can't do most of those things and it's the job of the Legislative branch.

I... I don't think Obama's even intentionally trying to troll them into this kind of shiat anymore, he actually genuinely wants them to feel secure so they'll work with him.  They're doing it to themselves now, start to finish.

2013-02-20 08:51:21 AM
Maybe they should have opened with reading the Constitution again.  This would never have happened last time.

The funny thing about absolutist oppositions are that the more reasonable you act in order to try to work with them, the more unreasonable they have to act in order to maintain their absolute opposition. It's not a winning strategy unless your opponent really is genuinely unreasonable to begin with and will not change.

It's Obama's place to save you from yourselves?

"Unfortunately, he has put forth no detailed plan that can pass Congress, and the Senate -- controlled by his Democratic allies -- hasn't even voted on a solution, let alone passed one," Boehner's piece said.

"By contrast, House Republicans have twice passed plans to replace the sequester with common-sense cuts and reforms that protect national security," Boehner's piece said.

Obama is gutless because he fails to propose legislation which can pass in the House.
What does that make Boehner for passing legislation which he knows cannot possibly get signed off by the Senate?

2013-02-20 09:01:21 AM
Government Shutdown, Fiscal Cliff, ... The GOP has made it perfectly clear that they intentionally do nothing until the last 15 minutes before the crisis, so they can milk the drama for everything it's worth.  It's all theater until 11:45 pm the night before.

Every time I see Boehner quoted talking about Congress, this:

"Unfortunately, he has put forth no detailed plan that can pass Congress, and the Senate -- controlled by his Democratic allies -- hasn't even voted on a solution, let alone passed one," Boehner's piece said.

bullshiat always seems to make an appearance.  Fark you, John. Seriously, fark you, and your filibustering crowd of flying ass-monkeys.

Karac: What does that make Boehner for passing legislation which he knows cannot possibly get signed off by the Senate?

Super-gutsy and all-American. And the Senate are a bunch of milquetoast sackless bastards because they won't pass the House bills that avoid the sequester by taking all the cuts from the defense side and replacing them with more cuts from the discretionary side.

2013-02-20 09:04:54 AM
I shot myself in the foot. Obama wasn't personally there to stop me. Thanks Obama

2013-02-20 09:06:34 AM
But how can Speaker Boehner do his job before he knows that the President is willing and eager to be his personal boot-lick? It's borderline racism I tells you.

2013-02-20 09:06:51 AM
This is just a coded plea for help. He can't do his job and he knows it.

2013-02-20 09:10:05 AM
This would be the time for Obama to unveil a progressive plan to replace the sequester with investments in infrastructure and education, and boost revenue with a tax hike on the top earners and the abolishment of corporate welfare.

2013-02-20 09:13:28 AM
It's Obama's fault because he proposed the sequester.  That'll fly as long as nobody remembers that there was a supercommittee that was supposed to propose legislation as an alternative.  The democrats proposal included 3 trillion in cuts along with 400 billion out of medicare; the republicans must have somehow thought that didn't cut enough and made a counterproposal which suggested 1.2 trillion.

Republicans: the only people who can say with a straight face that they want to cut the national debt a combination of spending more money and taking in less taxes.

At what point should Obama get on television and say that Boehner was elected to the branch of government that controls the budget, and if he can't figure out a way to do his job, Boehner should just step down and let a real American step in. Because I really feel like this is where we are going with this.

the only people Reagan taxed less was those at the top. he shifted the majority of the burden to the middle class. the rest he borrowed. Bush continued that trend by cutting taxes and spending more on defense.

McConnell controlls the senate?  Good to know.

Neither bill has been passed into committee by Reid.  You cannot start the senate process without doing that.  McConnell is obstructing nothing.

Yep, Reagan was a great fiscal conservative.

The sad thing is that graph doesn't matter.  People don't like Congress as a whole, but they like the person who represents them (in general).  So there's not a lot of realistic options for changing that one.  People will continue to vote for "their guy", and keep hating Congress as a whole.

He controls enough to filibuster anything he doesn't want to pass - even the stuff he himself proposed.
The question for any piece of legislation in the Senate isn't "Do enough people like this to for it to pass?", it's "Do enough people dislike it to prevent it?"

And the threshold for the 2nd question is usually 1 person.

I don't think Paul Baumer was talking about Boehner losing his seat. He was talking about him losing this battle. A majority of the country approves of the work the President is doing and only a small minority believe the GOP controlled congress (via majority in the House and obstructionists in the Senate) is doing well. Boehner can stomp his feet and try to blame Obama for his failures but the majority of the public isn't buying it.

I never meant to imply that it was a good or workable idea just one they keep using. The only person to call it a stimulus is me. It is a stimulus, not for the economy as a whole but for big donors. Under Reagan and GWB they became richer faster
