The Cecil is a great place. It's part SRO (ultra-low-cost housing for the almost-homeless) due to an old covenant with the city they can't get out of, and part traditional budget-price hotel. The Cecil also contains the hotel-in-a-hotel "Stay on Main", a "boutique hotel and hostel", which is targeted to hipsters as well as young international travellers.

I'm in season seven of that damn show and can't stop watching it. It's kind of amazing in some ways. In others I want to strangle the writers, but I guess not everyone knows that a full eclipse doesn't just happen in 20 seconds and magically make it so dark people can commit a crime on a crowded beach without being seen...

How does a body get in a hot water tank, anyways? Every one I have seen does not have very easy entry at all.

octopied: How does a body get in a hot water tank, anyways? Every one I have seen does not have very easy entry at all.

There are hatches on the top of the tanks, used for periodic cleaning (annually in some cities). In a tall building, they're used for cold water too, to maintain pressure on higher floors. If they're locked, some of the maintenance crew would have keys. You can see from the photo that there's a ladder permanently attached to the neighboring machine room (assuming that's what it is), so you could climb that and hop down to the top of the water tanks, if the tanks don't have their own ladders.

Sounds like someone who thought things through well, if they knew to avoid the hotel elevator cameras, knew how to get to the roof, and had the wherewithal to dump the body in a water tank.

2013-02-19 11:23:01 PM
I was gonna do a dark water pic but the shiatty remake has already been posted.

2013-02-19 11:23:52 PM
The two-minute security tape footage showed Lam pressing buttons for multiple floors in the elevator before she darts out quickly, looking side-to-side before moving her arms around wildly.

Life imitates horror movie.

2013-02-19 11:26:10 PM
I smell a lawsuit coming, not only from her family, but the people who stay there.  The hotel obviously did nothing to secure that water tank, thus putting at risk the health of anyone who was there during the time she was in the tank.  If someone can get in there on their own or put somebody else in there, what else can one put in that tank?  Someone could put any kind of poison or filth they wanted into that water tank.  If it's not secured, how many rats, pigeons, roaces, and other vermin have gotten in and died?

2013-02-19 11:29:58 PM
Guess we need a ban, or at least stronger regulations for rooftop water tanks.

Actually...why WOULD anyone think to look in the hot water tank? I mean, I'm sure they did search the roof, but why would they think "hot water tank"? It wouldn't be a really obvious place to stash a body, because (as someone already observed) most people think they're hard to get into. You look on the roof, you see no obvious bodies--unless you're in an episode of CSI, you don't go cutting open the walls or dismantling the plumbing, because most CRIMINALS don't think like that.

Clearly they need to be looking for an unemployed scriptwriter!

Fair enough, I wasn't thinking that the tanks were enclosed.  It's obvisou they would be (and looking at the photo now, they look to be).
