J. Frank Parnell: doglover: The price of freedom is EVERYONE is free. That's the world I want to see.

But they're only free to do things you deem good, or harmless?

The problem with everyone being free is that also means people are free to punch you in the face and take your stuff, or anything else they might want to do. I'm sure they rationalize it to themselves as justified, even if you may not agree. It invariably turns into a subjective ethical or moral debate, and you have to decide what people can and can't do in order to maintain some semblance of order, and we're right back where we started.

Limits concept and context. You lack them. By its very nature, "Freedom" is a self-limiting concept. The best expression of it is that "my right to swing my fist ends where your nose begins." There is nothing contradictory about that statement. It is consistent, it is limited in scope, and the context is clear, concise and objective. There is zero moral/ethical content that is subjective.

The concept you are thinking of, above, is the chaos of dog-eat-dog survivalism. "...free to punch you in the face and take your stuff,..."  That is actually more descriptive of a socialist/fascist state (such as our own) where the interest group(s) able to temporarily get the attention and sympathy of the political elite (The State) are able to directly or indirectly loot other interest groups not as well equipped with the proper connections.

flaminio: timujin: Tustin isn't Los Angeles.  I know it all looks the same from over there, but Tustin is about six cities south of L.A., an hour away depending on traffic.  It's about as close as Rancho Cucamonga.  They're in different counties ferfuxake.

You have to understand -- for most of us, everything south of Santa Barbara, north of San Diego, and west of San Bernadino is "L.A."

I've never been to the US, so everything between Canada and Mexico is "L.A." for me.

Reminds me of a line from the Eddie Murphy movie "Coming to America" (I'm paraphrasing): "America is such a big, diverse country. So, New York or L.A.?"

I have a shopping addiction, you wouldn't understand....It was so hard growing up in the Long Beach area. I just wanted to take the 105 and get the hell out of there. I wanted to pass the airport and continue onto La Cienega. That was my dream. But that dream ended when I then I checked into the Yucca Valley treatment center for shopping disorders. On the Palms Highway. Across from the Del Taco. But I'm better now.

/Actually I'm not sure why its the 105
//710 and 405 go out of LB

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: SubBass49: Douchebag is from Ladera Ranch...think of it as an overpriced (even by So-Cal standards) enclave of Orange County (Republican heaven) full of douchebags with USC stickers on their BMW/Audi/Porsche/Benz and housewives that hire housekeepers to clean so they can go to cross-fit.

fark this guy...farkin' douche.

Loretta Sanchez would like a word with you.

Actually, she's more likely to biatch-slap you.

You're stereotyped thinking on OC is about 40 years out of date, son.

Ladera Ranch is part of the 49th district...represented by auto thief and notorious dipshiat Darrell Issa (R-Etard).  that's about as Republican Derp-Fest as it gets...

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: saturn badger: I was gonna go with:

Knock! Knock!
Who's there?
Orange.
Orange who?
Orange you glad you don't live in Orange County?

/yeah. lame, I know
//but you smiled. I saw it

I'm happy as a clam at high tide thjat I live in OC and not LA. Even (or especially) when we were homeless it is a MUCH better environment. Lower taxes, saner city governments (with some exceptions) lots of ethnic diversity and food (Soul, German, Cambodian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Mexican, El Salvadorean, Guatemalan, Laotian, French, American South, etc.), and the smog is less and the weather more temperate. Also less crazy people.

Glad to hear it. I live up north from you and all we hear about is the crazy stuff.

You're both wrong/right. South Orange County (San Clemente to Lake Forest/Irvine) is full of Republican douchebags. North Orange County is full of grimey neighborhoods with poor minorities.

Orange County essentially has no soul.

Really? I've seen shiatloads of "Messican" residents in row upon row of grimy apts in both San Clemente and lake ?Forest. There's a smaller bunch in Irvine, but I expect the People's Republic will round them up one of these days since they do not conform to Ze Master Plan!

There's always jobs for poor Mexicans in even the richest cities. Hell I've seen some pretty ghetto areas of Laguna Beach, but it's not like Santa Ana where there's endless Mexicans or Garden Grove where there are endless asians

I've lived in Santa Ana and Rancho Santa Margarita, so this is all based on my experience with those two opposing dynamics. You can even see it in driving skills. I watch out for other drivers in north Orange County (asians, etc). In south Orange County I have to keep myself from road raging due to all the stuck up inconsiderate drivers, even though they generally drive much more safely.
