And she worried a table might collapse because one had broken under a 165 pound man.

Probably for the better that this woman didn't get service from the place.  If they can't even afford quality tables, imagine how awful the massage probably is.

2013-02-19 04:20:49 PM
if a double lady runs half a marathon, is that like one lady running 1/4 of a marathon?

imagine how much she'd be whining to the media if she had gotten the massage, broken the table, and was asked to pay for it.

2013-02-19 04:22:42 PM
A table that can only hold 165lbs is a table that was not made for Americans.

2013-02-19 04:23:48 PM
Imagine the sound of fupa slapping against thunder-thighs for 13 miles..

Penny Wells, the owner of Natural Healing Center, wouldn't talk on camera, but she says she called Smith large, not fat. And she worried a table might collapse because one had broken under a 165 pound man.

With a safety margin like that, Penny should expect some lawsuits in her future.

Guys, guys, please. We need to stop pretending here. How many of you honestly think that this woman actually "ran" anything in that half-marathon?

/I bet she's also a charity terrorist

As a former fatty who has run half-marathons while both fat and skinny, I'll bet she ran most of it. And who gives a shiat if she didn't. 13.1 miles is a long way, even for a walk. By all means, let's make overweight people feel bad for trying to improve their health.

2013-02-19 05:03:15 PM
Pretty much anyone can "run" a half-marathon.  One of my larger co-workers, who I would guess is about 5'10" and 350 lbs., "ran" one.

2013-02-19 05:10:38 PM
Good for her for losing 47 pounds and for running half-marathons. Even if she didn't run the whole way, that's showing more dedication to fitness than half of Fark has been able to show. And that sounds like a crap massage parlor if they can't afford tables stronger than that. There are plenty of professional athletes that weigh over 165. There are plenty of average adult (non-fat) males that weight over 165.

/actually is going for a run now

Good thing most of the "massage" ladies I see don't mind chunky dudes. They'd lose 90% of their clientéle.

Oh, well, now ma kebrd iy aii stlkjljy.

Did she at least shower after the marathon?  Cause... ick; I see massage ladie's point.

Interestingly, I am the same height and weight as this woman.  Also, I'm pretty much a lardass.

And she worried a table might collapse because one had broken under a 165 pound man.

If this is true, I think it's a valid concern.  Generally, if you're in the business of...well, making money, then you're not going to turn down a client unless you think that there is a significant chance accommodating said person would risk a headache/cost way beyond the fee you charge.

There's not enough info to tell who the bad guy here is, so I'll just respond by sighing and making reference to first world problems

If you absolutely have to make fun of fat people, steer clear of the ones who are actually trying to get in shape, yeah?

Yeah I'm still 35 lbs over my goal weight and I can now run 5K in 30 minutes.  Amazingly it's really not that tough.

QFT. If the tables can't support a 165 pound man, just who are these people giving massages to? Kids? Are they Catholic priests or something?

Biner:

Healthy adults under 6' or so?

if only there were some sort of solid surface that existed that they could have performed the rub down on other than said weak table.

2013-02-19 06:28:28 PM
As a muscular 240lbs man, I find a table that only holds 165 lbs hysterical.

The average American male weights ~195lbs
The average American female weights ~165lbs

Their profits must be horrible there if they can't buy a table that holds most of the U.S. population. You'd think a business that RELIES on people laying down on their tables ... that they would get some adequate tables.

2013-02-19 06:28:30 PM
I happen to know for a fact that even the portable tables can hold the weight of two grown adults.  But, I suppose you can say I ended up paying for the table anyways.

2013-02-19 06:28:55 PM
What are they doin on those massage tables if a 165lb guy collapses it?

2013-02-19 06:28:56 PM
Big Sur half marathon always has people from the massage school giving marathons at the finish. Sounds like the poor overweight woman:
a-entered a crap event
b-booked a massage at a crap spa

A massage table can hold a hell of a lot more than 250. My woman is a massage therapist and she has a couple large clients.

2013-02-19 06:29:12 PM
So, fatty-shamers, who do you shame when shiat like this happens?

I've done a fair number of halfs, and i'm in decent shape.....yes, I have been trucked by fatties.  the fatty who trains 4-5 months for a half versus the guy who decides to register for 13.1 about a week before will usually win that race.

/but i hate when kids beat me.
//go be young somewhere else.

I call BS on the "anyone can 'run' a half-marathon". The cut-off time is a feat not everyone can accomplish.

/I kid, I kid

2013-02-19 06:34:33 PM
She should've took the hint, they only service men and it's the kind of service that will get a 165lb man to destroy a table during the 'massage'.  None of their therapists are interested in women.

Inchoate: If you absolutely have to make fun of fat people, steer clear of the ones who are actually trying to get in shape, yeah?

Why? Those are the ones that are unhappy with being fat.

The ones that aren't any fun to make fun of are the fat farks that just sit there and say, "Yeah, I'm fat. Oh well. Pass the pizza and the ranch dressing".

If a table breaks from a 165 pound person, what is the weight at which clients will be safe?  I'm thinkin unless this business is turning away more than half of its potential customers, a city inspector should wander in with some valid concerns.

I am going to go out on a limb and guess the tables in question here are of the portable type which generally aren't as sturdy as ones meant to be put in a room and left there.

it sounds like they set up a place near the finnish live to give massages , which suggests it wasn't a normal massage place.

That said there have to be stronger stronger massage table portable or not available , I seriously know 7 guys who weight over 165 pound all over six food and in great shape. and with out trying hard can think of 3 other i am acquainted with with similar weight and height.

/ me under six foot and not so great of shape.
