The Mythbusters actually made a (much smaller) boat out of pykrete.  It also had the same problem with melting a lot faster than had been claimed, although they did manage to run it around for a while.

Yep. There is it.

I remember when gawke media invented fun war trivia.

I believe it was slightly after Reddit invented photo captioning and just a smidge before 4-chan invented sassy irreverence.

Next, they'll let you know about this guy named Lincoln and how his assassination has many similarities to another guy's assassination.

Remember when Fark made fun of crap journalism instead of endorsing it?

I think it's time I started work on a greasemonkey script to nix all these ridiculous ads, sponsored links, buzzfeed and gawker media shiat.

(see xkcd 10,000 joke)

Everyone's cranky because it's a staple of those 'weird things from WW2' TV shows. (What is it? It's a streaming video box that oldtimers would watch that you can't pause, you can only 'change channels', but that's not important now)

No but I remember when people had the common sense to realize that a greenlight wasn't an implicit endorsement of an article's content.

It's hard to retain that belief when there's half a dozen of these posted every day. It's like diarrhea.

swahnhennessy: The last guy who did that isn't around anymore.

I think that would be totally justified, but nonetheless I don't think Fark would have much luck getting the script removed from Github.

The mythbusters boat melted faster because it was so small.  A pycrete carrier would have so much more ice in it (square cube law) relative to surface area, that like large icebergs, it could stay in good shape a long while, longer still if the cooling plant worked right.

That and it was to have a built in refrigeration system that would have kept it frozen.

The Habakkuk was designed to have a layer of insulation around it which would be a major factor in slowing down thawing as you're moving through the water.
