Do they also have one that does the reverse?

Does it kill the hangover too? If so then take it when you're done, no buzz killing needed.

Just imagining it makes me want to go out and drink like i am 18 again.

Fark you, hangover!

I refer to that kind of nanocapsule as a "shot glass"

I'm really looking forward to the arguments on why this shouldn't be legal.

Cuz you just know somebody is gonna have a stick up their butt about it.

I recall one of my psychology courses mentioning a pill that would do the same. It wasn't brought to market as it didn't eliminate risks associated with alcohol poisoning--the fear was that people would drink till they were shiatfaced, take the pill, then start drinking again.

That, alone, made the article worthwhile.

MADD will biatch about this to no end, their mission to end drunk driving was discarded long ago and now they exist as an arm of the temperance movement and to secure funding for their management, not actual safety.

Why would they do this?

Pretty soon holier than thou types will be slipping them into your drink at the bar...

I knew a girl who had these pills she said they gave astronauts so that they could work 72 hours straight, as I watched her drink 2 bottles of wine and tons of vodka shots in one sitting, and she seemed completely sober.  It was scary to witness because it was so unsettling what she was doing to her body.

These are going to be the richest men in the world within 5 years.

Every glovebox, every bathroom medicine cabinet, in vending machines in every bar in the world.

They'll even re-edit Star Trek TNG to remove synthehol and replace it with magic sober pills.

Barkeeps will be caught slipping it to customers to keep them pounding back shots.

30mg of Dexedrine will do that for you.

Not saying I used to work 60 hours weeks in 3 days... but I did.

Hydration and b complex vitamins, and now the thread is done.

Also, I see this as a step in the direction of synthahol, which could be good for parties, etc. Drink all you want to and be able to drive home

What an incredible breakthrough. I remember thinking about this decades ago, but if course with absolutely no way to invent such a thing. The days of drunk driving would be over, think how much better society would be. Not to mention if they had this twenty years ago I might have shown up dover to work once between 1987 and 1990.

The article mentions that going to bed with a high BAC ruins the quality of your sleep that night as your body rebounds.  If you take this pill, you will get a better night of sleep, which should make you less hungover.

I think that hangovers are actually caused by a combination of multiple factors, such as dehydration.  So the pill doesn't necessarily cure all of those factors, but even just helping you sleep better is a step in the right direction.  You can always drink plenty of water to help prevent the dehydration issue.

The other option is to be friends with someone who has access to IVs.  A bag or two of that and you're right as rain.  This pill certainly seems easier though.

I'll stick with my cup of Klatchian coffee. Just have to get the dose right, don't want to be knurd.

Also, isn't the debate on people using the pills to increase irresponsible drinking essentially the same argument people had with the morning after pill being used to increase irresponsible sex?

Like cures for nicotene addiction, these will never be legal in the US. First, the progressive puritans will not put up with it. It would destroy a primary reason for telling everyone else how to live. MADD would be devastated.

One can just watch how e-cigarettes are being demonized to get a glimpse of how an anti-drunk pill will go over with our overlords and masters in various levels of government.
